Folks seem to forget that in the 6.0 system, marks are just placeholders, nothing more, and 6.0 does not mean "perfect". If on occasion Kwan was 'overmarked', it was most likely because previous competitors were marked a bit too high.

Another thing: even when Nationals are held under CoP, you can expect marks to be inflated, especially in the PCS scores. Canadian Nationals were held under CoP, and that proved to be quite true.

QR 34.35, SP 70.93, FS 156.95, Total 262.23 Buttle, Canadian Ntls
QR 32.00, SP 77.39, FS 136.30, Total 245.69 Buttle, Worlds

Buttle's Canadian Nationals FS score is more than 12 points higher than Lambiel's Worlds FS score, where Lambiel landed two quads. Part of the difference was that Canadian judges scored Buttle mid 8's in the PCS scores, while the Worlds judges gave him mid 7s. You can equate those 8's with 6.0s.

CD 40.96, OD 65.51, FD 111.07, Total 217.54 Dubreuil/Lauzon Canadian Ntls
CD 40.51, OD 58.30, FD 100.17, Total 198.98 Dubreuil/Lauzon, Worlds

D/L had a mistake in the OD, which partially accounts for the much-lower score, but again, the Canadian judges gave D/L PCS scores in the low 8s, while the Worlds PCS scores were about .8 lower across the board. The Worlds PCS scores in the FD were pretty much a whole point lower than the 8s the Canadian judges gave. If D/L had scored 217.54 at Worlds, they would have won the bronze medal; as it was, they finished 7th.
