Mikhail Kolyada

He didn't fake an illness for five months, he "faked" it in August and then kept on insisting it is all better now. I hate when skaters, well, flat out lie. Zhenya did it last season but at least it was for the Olympics. Now it suddenly dawned on him you actually need to treat yourself in time.

He may still not make it, Zhenya insisted she would participate until the last moment. I just hope he doesn't make it all the way to the SP and have to withdraw after it, which will be the crowning moment of idiocy that is this season. The really stupid thing is that he seemed better in Zagreb at least with regard to coordination issues. He probably went because he was feeling a bit better. And it was going there that most likely triggered the exacerbation. One positive is that at least now people will not be quite as likely to accuse him of having no character.

He travelled to all competitions, except Zagreb, by train, may be flying influenced somehow nose issue due to pressure in the plane and so on.
I am still not sure people will think he has character, as there is already an opinion he is looking for possibilities to withdraw and not to show bad skating.
Actually i hope he will withdraw and take care about his health as nothing is more important, but I'm scared there is something more in the game (finance issues, career, etc..). Don't know what i will handle better, missing him in Saransk or watching live him losing everything.

They can't take away his salary now and for next season he can win the Russian Cup Final to make the team. Honestly, they do not hate him enough to break the rules to keep him off no matter what, that's paranoia. He is going because he wants Euros/Worlds.

There is no way they would take him off the national team. Misha may not be the one the Federation would LIKE to see as #1, but he still is in reality, and I’m sure they know that. He might not make the European/Worlds team, but kicking him off of the national team next season would be pure insanity. There’s no way RusFed is that stupid.

There are people even on Misha's VK group who are talking about how heroic it was of Misha to hide his health problems for all these months. How even??? Pretending you are well is ten times more laudable than actually getting well, no doubt. Yes, Misha, you get treated on time, it took you all of five months to realise that, better late than never I guess.

I'm possibly too pessimistic (as usual in everyday life) but really don't know what to think about these two yesterday's almost controversal sayings from Misha and Valentina. Well, I hope everything will be fine and by Monday we will know a little bit more. Sorry for the panic.
One thing that bothers now is should I finish my present for him or there's no need to hurry :)

I just want to know how he is :( I don’t know if it was just the lighting/his expression, but his face seemed so swollen in that IG picture :(

I hate not knowing! But I also don’t trust him/his team to tell us the truth....

I really hope they get that sinusitis treated. Wishing Misha all the best.

IV drips are meant to relieve edema, hopefully that part is getting better. But even if they clear his sinuses and his balance issues are manageable by Nationals I still don't get where he is expecting to obtain the required stamina to finish the FS when he couldn't do it when not straight out of a hospital.

Its a pity he cant be sectioned in ENT ward
I think the doctors can absolutely forbid him to go and maybe they haven't. But I honestly don't know what the Fed expects to see/Misha expects to do at Nationals straight out of the hospital.

I just hope this pushes them to water down his layout. It's my only hope at this point.

He is not the first young person to gamble with his health but Valentina? I feel she could have done more...

We still don’t know for sure, right? Valentina could have just been saying “our plans are to go to Saransk” but that doesn’t necessarily mean that’s what they will end up doing. Maybe they’re just trying to show the Fed that they’re doing everything they can, trying to fight through it and all that, but at the end of the day they will end up withdrawing.

I’m still confused as to why Valentina made a statement less than 4 hours after Misha’s post, at which point everything was still up in the air. What could have happened in that short interval?

I don’t think any official decision has been made yet.

I wonder if the tension we saw may have been due to differing opinions on what Misha should be doing with his health.

But they seemed chummy in Zagreb, where he was breathing so heavily in the KnC. Valentina was especially smiley after his short. But I guess she was hopeful at that point that the worst was over.

I will say, “Heal yourselves on time, folks” sounds like an admission of guilt on Misha’s part. But if Valentina couldn’t support him during the Olympics, maybe we’re overrestimating how much influence she has on his actions/mental state?

Yes, we don't know if he'll end up going at this point. He is still in the freaking hospital as I understand, how can anyone be sure?

Never mind, just read on Russian forums that he is indeed still in the hospital....

If getting to Worlds is an absolute must, then he should just do the Russian Cup Final and hope the Fed gives him the bye. I hate to say this, but it’s likely at least one of the Russian men is going to underperform at Europeans, leaving a spot open for Misha.

He seemed to be a bit better there, obviously not back to form because that wouldn't happen overnight even if he had indeed been healthy, but not as wobbly at least. It is an admission of guilt, I hope there will be some lesson learned from this. I am eagerly waiting for an interview where someone asks him what exactly he had been thinking and some light gets shed on the goings on of this season.

I hope the Fed isn't essentially blackmailing him into going by saying it's the only way to Euros/Worlds instead of waiting to see how he does at the Russian Cup Final and/or Universiade and then deciding on Worlds. They really need him to keep three spots, and a healthy version of him, not one that had finished itself off by trying to compete straight out of the hospital.
