Yes, they can choose, but they do it in order of places they took on worlds and there are some rules about it. Some difficult rules which Misha doesn't understand well, but said the best skaters can't choose the same GP.. Misha and others are waiting for Hanyu's decision, not Boyang's :)

So I guess Javier already submitted his preference but Yuzu has not, therefore all other skaters are waiting for Yuzu's choice.

But choices skaters 4-6 make are supposed to be independent of choices of skaters 1-3 - at least nothing has ever suggested otherwise. And Boyang is sure to be a host pick for CoC, and even discounting that there is no earthly reason for Yuzuru to go to CoC instead of NHK. Apparently Misha is going to CoR regardless of who of the first three does, so it's not clear why there is a problem with the second choice.

Seems that the thing is that if Hanyu miss GP because of problems with health, Misha will have the rights of the third on the worlds (us he explained). So, if there is no Hanyu there will be three best who can't be on one GP:
1. Javier
2. Boyang
3. Misha

Oh, now I get it. Thanks!!!

Does this mean that Hanyu will have to decide if he'll go to GP by this Thursday?

As promised the part 1 of the interview, as per usual happened to be especially busy at work so excuse any mistakes - corrections are welcome!

'- Misha, your first season after a serious injury is over, the season which was very, very successful. How do you remember it?
- It was great. All I dreamt of came true but of course I want even bigger things
- What competition of the season you remember the most?
- Moscow Grand Prix Cup of Russia. Honestly, I do not know why this one. Maybe I prepared myself somewhat differently. And I feel this event was the most exciting of all.
- What's in this season was the most difficult for you?
- Team Challenge Cup in American Spokane.
- We heard that you were skating there in your new skates?
- Yes. I came back from the Worlds in Boston to St. Petersburg, had a rest for a week, then started breaking in the new boots and thus did not do anything difficult in practice, did not jump for a week. And on Monday, that was the third week after my return, I got a phone call and was told that the flight was on Wednesday. Naturally, I was very surprised.
- Many athletes have noted the special atmosphere of the team event. Did you feel it?
- To be honest, this event was a bit of a mess for me. The season was though successful but very tough one and by that time it was very difficult to prepare for yet another competition.
I didn’t get into that atmosphere much. To compete in the regular events I liked better. At TCC we needed to sit for some time before and after your skate supporting the team. And this, of course, great, but not easy. In addition, a training schedule was not very convenient practically leaving no time for rest.
- The main start of the season was the World Championship for you. It's been three months since this event. How do you remember it?
- First of all, the atmosphere at this competition is very special, no other competition has that. I also liked to skate before a large audience, to train and warm-up with the great skaters ...
I, for example, saw Boyang Jin in practice and was impressed. The guy was just warming up, hop, and he did a quad Salchow. Just went and did. And he did it like it was a triple. He is a devil of a jumper. Somehow he manages to defy gravity'

So it is official - Mika got CoR and NHK - looks not bad. He will face Javi & Shoma at CoR and Yazuru & Jason at NHK. He is sure to get a warm welcome in Japan where he's already got many fans (where is our thread's 'founder' BTW?) He could fight for silver in both GP realistically, your thoughts?

My thoughts are very similair, though I think it will be a little harder at CoR. In both competitions the podium is within his reach for sure :)

There is Nathan Chen at NHK - could be a factor - depending of course on the recovery from his injury

He has quads, yes, but personally I like Mika's jumps better and he is more polished skater overall, so I wouldn't worry about Nathan much, unless Mika will make mistakes... And of course, I assume that he will add second quad to his programs, to give himself a little more TES advantage. I consider Shoma Uno more of competition than Nathan, since he is also good overall skater + his 4F attempts, so CoR is more competetive for me :)

Yes you are right - Shoma is a more formidable opponent than Nathan. I am a fan of Shoma (but not of his jumps) so there is going to be a lot of conflicting emotions as I think a competition within the trio of Shoma, Jin & Mika will be very close

I'll put this here too, although it is hardly unexpected - Team Russia 2016-2017 lists are out and Misha made the main team, together with only Kovtun and Petrov. All the other men are on the reserve team. Also a big cheer for Valentina Chebotareva for having two skaters on the main Russian team - Misha and Stasya Konstantinova! :cheer:

Misha is adding 4S, but if his past experience with jumps is anything to go by he is not going to land it consistently right away. To be honest, as long as he gets it all together by Worlds like last season, I will be happy. Shoma Uno, on the other hand did very well at the last GP but not as well later on, so we will have to see.

Thanks for letting us know. Can you please post a link? I'd like to see who else made it in other categories :)

Shoma is a bit of an anti-Boyang for me - Boyang needs to improve in non-jump areas while Shoma really should do something about that jump technique (and both of them need better transitions). Misha is a better-rounded skater than both of them (and he is also working on transitions as per his last interview, and with the upped tech content...). It all depends on who has a good day.
