Mikhail Kolyada

It's good that he knows that the best thing is not to pop his jumps - and I'm happy he didn't pop his quads in the free, it's important for him, more than anyone else, to know that he can rotate the jumps. Also, he was as close as he's ever been with the salchow. Now I'm much more confident in him.

Hoping for good things in Finlandia!

YAYYY and Molodyet for Mikhail for landing 4Lz!! Can't wait to see him more in the future, especially at the top of the podium!!!

Ten minutes of adorable Mika and his face expressions :luv17:

Adorable is the word! The audio quality is not that great but some points:

-Mika doesn't like that everyone says whats expected in interviews (being PC)
-In the summer he found time to do a bit of sightseeing of St Petersburg which he hasn't done for some 10+ years and loved it
-TAT praised highly his new programs (why I am getting worried now?!) and especially his arm movements
-Mika himself is very enthusiastic about his LP (he didnt say anything about SP or I didn't catch it?)
- All his hopes are on making a team for Olympics

Mika is in 1st after the SP :yahoo:

The protocols are up. 90.45 (TES 49.93 PCS 40.52) All spins are level 4, step sq level 3 (sigh), +2 GOE on 3A.

Ok no 4lz this time but a very solid skate. I think he did the triple during the warm-up too?

I was trying to look at him during the warm up, and I thought I saw a quad, but maybe not. I don't know if he was going for the triple lutz, but if it was, good strategy on his part. Skating a clean short is good, and he seemed very centered, so let's hope that translates into a good FS too.

Can't afford to do a triple in the FS, he'll have to rearrange the rest of the program big time as he has two triple lutzes in combinations. And it looked like he wanted to do a quad but realised in time it wasn't going to work.

Oh, I don't think he wants to do a third triple lutz in the free, but I want him to compete like this. He seemed sure of his technique and centered during the program, and that's good.

I am not sure he wanted to do a triple lutz in the short. He jumped far too high for a triple. Tomorrow he'll have to rotate it no matter what, he can't get in the habit of tripling his 4Lz, a fall is better. But I am sure he realises that and it's too early to worry.

This performance is of course better than the last, but then anything is better than the last. Good enough for this competition so far though. And I know Lambiel went all out with that step sequence, but Misha of all people should be able to produce level 4 step sequences with high GOE and not lose points. I guess more practice is needed there too, and when he gets both the levels and the quality together it will be lovely to watch. And his arm movements bother me slightly less now, but as someone has said he has sharp elbows and this costume seems to exaggerate it (unless that's the point?..). He might do better with different sleeves but that's unlikely to happen now I guess.

It was so high, I thought it had to be a quad. Not quite sure about the arms or the costume, but still an improvement. His skating skills are very evident. There is a good contrast between the short and free program styles that shows versatility. He seems closer than ever to the top group.

Oh Misha, that was such an easy gold for you to take! :(

The jumps looked good in Nepela, really good. But not today... Oh well, there's always next time. It's not like the other russian men at Finlandia were much of a threat to him today either.
