To be honest, Misha, if I were in his shoes, I'd end my career right there. It's better to finish a career on a high note than to continue and risk losing your Olympic champion status through future competitions that could damage your reputation. A bit like Kaetlyn Osmond, she retired when she reached the top; for me, that's the best retirement—leaving when you're number one in the world. So that people have the best memories of you.

Many OGMs skip post-Olympic Worlds without a thought for retirement. I wouldn't be surprised if he did the same - skipped the Worlds, rested, celebrated and came back even stronger the next season.

so according to you any skater who has ever won a medal over a favourite should pack and go home becase when he's going to get another chance like this. also i remember you phrased your opinion quite differently in another thread, something like "he's not gonna win anything as soon as Ilya is back". who cares if he and many other who might never get on the top (unlike Misha, who is a multiple gp medalist, a world medalist and 4cc champion) love the sport and want to go on, make room guys, you're just a filler and your job is done
