Misha Ge

Misha is choosing between his limited physical abilities compared to the top tier skaters, and his boundless artistic potential and expressions through skating. He has a very limited time for a very improbable breakthrough in his competitive career whereas he has the rest of his life to develop, enjoy and work on his artistic talents. The injuries and the demand for his choreographic work may have just crystallized his decision to focus on the latter. It's at least very tempting.

I see a bright and happy future for Misha the choreographer. His fans can continue to enjoy his skating and style through other talented skaters.

Loved his SP at 4CC . Obviously no quad but he did get over 80 with no quad. His PCS scores were above 40 as well . Really nice skater to watch and of coarse the toast of Uzbekistan

aw, he keeps dropping hints :(

I'm glad he had a good time at 4CC. I will be so so so so so sad if this is his last season :sad21: But I understand he's been struggling a lot. At least we can hope to see him in shows and with other skaters if he keeps up the choreographer job. Still, he's always been such a bright spot in every competition :sad21: it's just sad

I seriously want him to skate @ Olympics but he has to put his health and happiness at first position because it's the most important things. I will be really sad as well, he's special person and skater. I hope everything will go well and we will get to see two more incredible programs :luv17:

Has he been having injuries or niggles again? I would love to see him in the Olympics and at least qualify for the LP too. I really admire him as much as Hanyu. He may not be the same level of skater, but his talent seems just limitless when looking at what he's been doing simultaneously while skating

:sad21: A testament of how much i like him: i sat through his EX program smiling. He made me enjoy Justin Bieber!
I am going to miss him so so much :hopelessness:

A new interview in Russian, published yesterday

This is the rough translation with the help of automatic translator, some usual glitches but enough to get the drift...

Misha, who is famous not only as an artist on the ice but also a talented choreographer for several skating stars, talks on his thoughts about he might retire soon, whether he intends to participate in the Olympic games 2018 as well as where he draws inspiration from.

- You upset fans by stating that you may retire before the 2018 Games. After reading all the responses did not change your decision?

- You know, I thought long and hard. It considered, above all, about the future of my development in different areas, taking into account all the nuances of the situation that currently exists. Then I realized the performance at 4CC may be one of the last in my career.

?(- In order to do that on retirement, you probably do not have any issues.

- Now on it and work. I have always paid much attention to develop themselves in other areas, but it takes a lot of time, training, flight, so I think it will look like the situation will develop, and already from this repelled.)?

- We are talking not only about the productions of programs?

- Not only. I want to play the role of director, manager, organizer of various training programs, ice shows. I basically involved in several different areas.

- On television, you do not want to work?

- Maybe. I was invited to be a presenter, non skating relatedt. But as figure skating takes in my life, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, unfortunately, I had to turn down many offers. Primarily because of the competition.

Gangneung turned into a battle of quadruple jumps. How about the current situation in the men's figure skating?

- I feel wonderful that generation after generation the programs become more demanding, with higher difficulties of elements. The present generation is very strong, very talented and a lot to learn from them. But I believe that we must exercise the individuality in each of us. Every person is talented in something, and their strengths can not be forgotten in the pursuit of the mainstream. You must climb, must keep up with the progress, but forget to show what you are stronger and better than others, it is impossible.

- The epithet "jumping machine" against pure skating?

- It shouldn't be like that - you are a good jumper, so you should just jump, or if you are artistic, you need to showcase it. It must be difficult steps, elements of the complex, but it should be nice and solid. It's like a box, and inside all the parts put together. You must not forget to demonstrate your own advantages, but most importantly, you need to show individuality on the ice and, of course, reach the hearts of those who watch your performance.

- Do you think that in the modern figure skating soul is missing?

- Unfortunately, in this respect, there is a problem right now. Chasing one, often lose more. When you see it, it is a shame. We must deliver powerful jumps, but we must also continue to give people the feelings that transcend into hearts.

- What is the inspiration for the formulation of programs?

- My grandpa was an artist, and an actor. Mom and Dad - coaches. My father was a winner of the Chinese adult championships. First there was the "single skater", then a dancer. Mum worked with me with music, sports and dance education. So I learned from them that I can draw inspiration from everywhere.

- In such a family, you probably have tried to give in a lot of different sections of circles ...

- There were not many, but the parents were given a lot of stuff to learn. I myself am currently studying at the International Dance Academy in Hollywood, as well as in the Beijing Central Academy of Dance. As mentioned in our family was said to the teacher, you can be inspired by anything - look at nature on the movement, animals, the sea, the mountains ... You can draw inspiration from everything that surrounds you.

- South Korea inspires you?

- Well, firstly, this is partly my home, because I have a grandmother Korean. Here I am inspired by the fact that we played in the Olympic arena. Whether I am to take part in the Olympics or not, it is important that I was here. For example, in the place where we live, there is the sea and the beach. There is also very beautiful. Of course, Korean culture inspired.

- When will you decide on the continuation of your career?

- I think it will depend on the situation itself, gradually, step by step.

- Do not want to speak at the Olympics?

- I will try to return to the Olympics, maybe in a different role. I hope that I will have a chance to do it in a different capacity.

So, for what we understand, he hasn't decided yet. He just knows he's nearing the end. I can only cross fingers that he will continue until Olympics 2018 and then retire only after. :(

If he's retiring, I'm glad I got to see Misha skate live twice last year at Worlds and SC. SC was certainly a highlight where he got a standing ovation for his "Nutcracker" FS.

He's got a long career as a choreographer; I absolutely love what he's done for Anna Pogo this season. He's worked with Gracie, too on her EX so maybe she'll use him again now that she's with Marina.

I think I need to put "make a Misha sign" on my to-do list before Worlds :sad21:
stupid phone always deleting my posts when I try to edit them......

While he didn't reach the upper-upper echelons of men's figure skating, his growth these last few years was incredible. He could have easily been one of those 20th place type skaters and be a fan favorite, but instead he improved to 6th in the world. He has reached a lot of professional goals, including choreographing for other top skaters and mastering that 3A -- that jump really gave him fits at one time.

I really hope we can see Misha for longer. But I know he will still contribute to FS with his unique ideas of choreography. Best wishes for Misha in whatever he will chose.

Well I mean lets be honest there. He isn't exactly a newbie in skating here. Hes been there done that and dealt with all the crud that comes with it. If he competes at the olympics one last time that's great but in the end we all know he doesn't stand a chance at placing in top medal placements. I wouldn't be surprised to see him skate at worlds if he is able to and then call it quits. I think it would take a miracle for him to come back next year and compete in Korea.

I am selfish. I don't care if Misha stands a chance to win any medals. For skaters I love, watching them skate is reward enough. And at least Misha doesn't need to worry about making the Oly team.

I would:luv17: for him to stay a year; I will understand if he doesn't.

Realistically speaking, I agree with jersey1302. Of course I would LOVE to continue to see him in competitions forever. But I have been worried about his foot since last season, it was already in pretty bad shape and it never really healed. It is just not worth it to keep torturing himself for a mediocre result, risking some serious/permanent damage, especially now that another career opportunity promises him a bright future. I just hope he will remain active as a professional skater, especially in Europe... I wonder if he would switch his citizenship to Russian once he stops competing.. that may ease his perpetual Visa issues...

I felt I was in art exhibition when I saw him live. I think he shares the gold medal of musicality with a few other skaters.
