In the filing, Kwan says that she and Pell had started to discuss the possibility of divorce in November, and have been living in separate homes since then. The two-time Olympic medalist, 36, says that they had tried to resolve this amicably until he blindsided her by filing in March.

Pell, who wants the case to be filed in California instead of Rhode Island, reportedly did not respond when Kwan attempted to serve him with the Rhode Island divorce complaint 10 times in April. She eventually had to post the documents on the front door.

Kwan has asked that Pell not stay in the home they are remodeling in Newport, Rhode Island. Kwan said Pell has labeled his belongings—including a air mattress and suitcases—"Pell," at their shared home.

Ugh, Clay. You're one of the Pells, one of the richest families in Rhode Island. Stop going after Michelle's money. How could a classy lady like Michelle marry a man who is so unclassy?

Kwan says in court papers that she learned of Pell’s [divorce] filing without warning via a tweet, that was soon followed by an an online article in the New York Daily News.
