How to measure impact
My favorite topic. I like to measure the impact of anything, in this case gushing by 2 - 3 dimensions, or the X, Y, Z axis.
1. intensity of the gushing.
2. number of posters who are gushing

3. may be integrate that over time.
So if we integrate the X, Y, Z axis we shall see the impact.
I have no doubt that Michelle is one of the most gushed, and bashed skater on the net.
Then we have to think about whether she deserves the gushings or not? Whether the gushings is way out of proportion of her actual achievement or not. Fans will gush, but if a fan starts gushing/ hyping about a skater who can barely make it out of regionals to be the next Tara Lipiniski (youngest Olympic champ/ world champ), then that is unrealistic. So far the MK gushings here on GS IMO, is not excessive, and MK lives up to the hype, maybe even deserves the moderated gush here at GS. So if 6.0 is the perfect mark in the gush scale, I am sure MK receives quite a few, but we all know marks are just place holders. If some other skaters are receiving a bunch of 5.9s with their acheivement, then I think MK is worth the 6.0.
(Just putting in a wordl for Tara, I think she deserves a 6.0 also. Her 21st birthday will be on 6/10/03, there is a birthday project organized by MM, if anyone is interested please contact MM)
Sarah: I love Sarah, and I have watched the put downs ever since the beginning of her senior career. She was briefly a rival of NNN, then Sasha Cohen, and Michelle. She is the reigning OLys champ, EOM.
Sarah is nice, and I love that. Sometimes posters are tired of nice skaters, "their interview on tv are too canned", "at least other skaters who have fire in their bellies are not afraid to speak their minds...." To me those are subtle put downs. Sarah is not the lone target, I have seen the same criticisms about MK, Jenny etc.
Angela: The worst Angela bash I have seen was from an ex Kwan fan who had jumped wagon since US nationals 2002. At the time Angela was competing with another skater for the third spot on the USA podium (Olys team). I have seen AN bashings, e.g. "she is the queen of the double jump, she is a loser, now that my favorite beat her for the Olys team, AN can stay home and watch the Olys on a big screen TV"
PS, I thought the Mk gushings post worlds here is very mild. I haven't even seen a congratualtions thread on her 5th world title yet.
