Most unfortunate costumes in history

Are we talking about Michael's self-perception or his actual head? LOL! No, I didn't like the program or the costume. And yes, I did think it made his head look too large for his body. Hopefully he'll change designers and choreographers for next season....I actually think he could be quite interesting to watch.

Hehe I think I may be the only who liked Shizuka's SP dress....but then I would! Although I prefered last years dress more! :)
This dress is just God-awful!

The fist LP dress Irina wore at World's, with the big heart was very ugly, IMO. On FSU, someone wrote she looked like a Care Bear.

I loved M&D'd outfits!!

All of Sasha's dresses this year need to be trashed. Her "My Fair Lady" white dress is stunning, so hopefully her dresses for next year will be along the same lines.

Absolutely hated the dress Michelle wore for the first Memorial Fund show. That blue thing with the fake flesh. (shudder)

I actually didn't care much for the blue dress. It didn't fit the music at all and I couldn't get past the scarf![/
Huh? What scarf. Michelle wore the dark blue dress. Did I miss a scarf?

I'd love for him to get a new choreographer, but I don't think he'll fire his wife (even if he should  ). But maybe he will at least get a better costume!

I'm pretty visual when it comes to threads like these, i.e., I'd have to browse through a collection of pictures to be able to say, "oh yes, that was one ugly costume".

Usually, however, I don't like costumes with anything figurative on them. Like this year's Irina's playing cards. You know, drawings? Or Sasha's first Swan Lake costume, with the "stylized" swan? I mean, you're skating to Swan Lake, we get it, Sasha. :rolleye:

Ice dancing costumes are inded horrendous, generally speaking. I always fail to see the connection between them and the music they are skating to.

In general, the costumes I like are the ones who could look like slightly glorified real clothes. Ladie's dresses that could look like an Oscar dress, for example.

This isn't the best picture of Scott & Dulebohn's 2003 FS costumes, but the combination of the two together just irked me.

His pants are a teal blue while her dress is baby blue. He had a cream colored shirt and the V at the top of her dress is white. I don't think that pairs have to match exactly, but the shades of colors should go together better. It was just something that irritated me all season.

They had one this year that looked like graduation gowns, or the gowns they wear in beauty school.

This costume seems to have taken a few slams today! I think I've figured out why - that tight blue costume makes his head look way too big for his body.
Is it just me, folks? Or does Michael Weiss have an oversized head?
Rave

Thank God - I thought it was just me. What with this and the huge blow wave he's had for the last century he looks like a lollipop.

Are we talking literally or figuratively??:D

Not that she's any bustier, but I thought that the costume looked better on Jenny and with sleeves. http://members.aol.com/jstducky07/programs.html

1. Michelle's "creamsicle" dress for EOE, Worlds 2001. This was an old dress of Linda Fratianne's, and it showed. Out of style, horrendous glitz, and it didn't fit Michelle very well as she's rather a bit smaller than Linda was.
Which costume are you talking about?
MK 96 Worlds EOE Exhibition costume which I believe was a Linda hand-me-down:http://www.ualberta.ca/~droles/skate/Mich.jpg or 01 Worlds EOE SP costume: http://www.icesk8r.com/2001worlds/ladies/kwan/kwan-sp1.jpg http://www.cleanvancouver.com/skating/P3230126.JPG
Which one is "creamsicle"? Both?

Wow Berthes Ghost: re Sasha's costume: skate recycling at its finest.

That said, I loved Tara's Original Rainbow costume and hated the new version. I'm a sucker for color and the original costume really emphasized Tara's longer legs (when she shot up in height).

I also loved Surya's costumes though they would look ugly on someone else. Surya's dark complexion and athletic body could really pull off those over the top busy Christian LaCroix designs. BTW, for the uninitiated in fashion, designs by LaCroix easily cost upwards of $50,000 for a custom made couture dress (which are as busy as Surya's costumes).

I don't like the costumes that Vera Wang has been designing for Michelle Kwan. She did a nice job with Nancy's dresses but the ones she has been designing for MK look rather uninspiring.

I also don't really care for any of Sasha's costumes. I liked the original swan dress and the malaguena costume, but they weren't anything special. I think her costumes lack ooomph.

Maria Butyrskaya's Red and Gray Tango Costume

Surya Bonaly: So many ugly costumes, However her worst was her 94 short program costume as well as her 93 short program lepoard costume and 95 long program.

Nicole Bobek: Colors Of the Wind

berthe's: The one with the single long sleeve in the second two pictures. Its the exact shade of orange in a creamsicle. It just isn't Michelle's style, and if you look at it in certain pictures, it bags a little. It just didn't fit well.

This goes *way* back, but at 1991 Nationals/Worlds, Natasha Kuchiki and Todd Sand wore costumes for their exhibition that I found in poor taste. They were skating to Dixie--which was essentially the Confederate anthem in the Civil War. Yet they wore blue costumes--the color of the Union uniforms. As an American, I noticed this instantly and thought, what a boneheaded choice. Although I suppose it would probably never be noticed by non-Americans.

Speaking of Civil War costumes, I also found it odd this year that Michael Weiss, a Southerner, chose a costume modeled on the Union uniform for his Civil War number. Maybe this was just Michael's way of saying that he's rejecting the old South and what it once stood for, which is his right. But it was still kind of weird to see a Southerner in a Union uniform. I wonder how many fans in the South, if any, noticed this.

I was a history major in college, so I may be more attuned to these things than most people.

I noticed it. I thought it was strange, considering he's from Virginia, but I didn't figure too many other people would pick up on that either. And I know I'm not the only one, but I hated the music to that program. It just didn't sit right with me.

I really didn't like the music either. It didn't seem like skating music, and I didn't like the arrangement. And I agree with those who said it made his head look huge.

vera's dresses for michelle

I think they are overly understaded as well... and I wish there werent so many of them, peach, blue and white. They remind me a lot of what she has been designing for the red carpet lately. Specifically I think they are very reminiscent of the dress she made for holly hunter at the oscars this past year.

Vera seems to get into themes or styles and over do them in a season these days, whereas Nancy's dresses were timeless and very custom looking.

Mike is from Fairfax close to Washingto, DC. Although technically the South a lot of folks in that area as do those in Maryland identify more with the East coast than the South. Fairfax does have an annual Civil War weekend with reenactments and all. Maybe Mike was inspired by that?

I just thought Michael was going for a toy soldier look

& I personally like Vera's dresses for Michelle...

i agree Piel,

I used to live in Falls Church (which is in Fairfax county) and most people were hesitant to identify themselves as "southern". And in our text books we were drawn into the "mid atlantic" states group.... Now that I live in texas its kinda funny because in our text books they only have south and north, not delination is made between midatlantic or new england. I guess it all has to do with perspective.
