My early top 10 predictions for top 2008 Worlds

I wonder where Verner will place. It would be really exciting he gets on the podium. He was very close to Takahashi at NHK. It was a big surprise and excitement to me.

Lambiel is really unpredictable. I have no idea where he will place. It would be really interesting if he wins. It's going to be his third gold. But it doesn't look like he would have two clean programs.

Is Joubert still sick?
 
Joubert won French Nationals with a less than stellar performance but given that he had been ill that is understandable. I am hoping he will be in fighting form come Euros and Worlds.
 
After seeing the Japanese National's, it struck me that the ladies' event could turn out this way:
1. Mao Asada
2. Miki Ando
3. Yu-na Kim
4. Yukari Nakano
5. Joannie Rochette
6. Kimmie Meissner
7. Carolina Kostner
8. Sarah Meier
9. Ashley Wagner
10. Elene Gedevanshivlli

I can't help rooting for the underdogs, and this year I feel like Mao & Miki are really treated like underdogs. So it'd be awesome if they can rise to the occasion and skate their very best. I was very inspired by Mao's SP and Miki's LP at Japanese National's. Mao skated with old skates and lost practice time too due to the luggage mishaps, plus the jet-lag coming back from Torino. Impressive!

Mao is never the underdog. Even at the Grand Prix Final, the commentators (and a good deal of the people on the forum) considered Mao to be the favorite. But it would be very exciting if Miki could defend her title...or better yet, if Yukari could pull a huge upset and take the gold! :yes:

I don't think Mao or Miki underdogs, either. They are strong and deserve Gold if skate clean.
It would be surprising if Yukari wins. But it doesn't look like it would happen unless Miki, Mao, Yuna, Rochette, Meissner and Calirona all have bad SP and LP for flu or something and only if Yukari stays healthy. Her jumps get deductions for various things (UR, edges) and her PCS haven't been high enough.

I am glad that Miki is back. But I wonder if she is capable of beating Yuna or Mao without a quad. At Japanese Nationals, Miki had her very best, but still could not beat Mao who had singled a 3A. If she does 4S and lands it, it's going to be interesting.

More important is that your selection gives a total US points at 15 which means no 3 skaters for 2009. In fact, only 1

Doesn't this imply the first rule instead? One skater in the top 12 means 2 spots for the following year. I believe the rule used is always the one which favours a greater number of skaters from a country. Remember last year's Worlds? Joannie Rochette was 10th in the end, Mira Leung was 24th, which would give a total of 26 (places 16th and lower earn 16 points), but since Joannie was top 12, Canada has 2 ladies' spots for Gothenberg (sp?).

PS I'm not sure whether it's top 10 or 12, but I know Joannie was 10th and we have 2 spots.
 
it's still the points that determin how many skaters are sent to the following worlds. I think that it's 28 and under get 2 spots, because I think that if Joannie had placed 12th or higher Canada would have gotten 2 spots. (I'm not sure on the # though)
The US will get at least 2 spots at least for 2009 worlds barring a massive melt down by all three skaters.

No way on that... there was a huge fuss about her being in 16th place after the short program and needing to move upat least 4 places to assure ladies back home that there would be a second ladie's world berth available for 2008... I'll find the quote later, right not I can't...

The Ukranian pair Volosozhar&Morozov still compite. They took parte in Grand Prix and at TEB were 5n NHK were 4.

This scenario would mean the USA would lose a spot for 09 Worlds in the ladies event.:cry::cry: That would be a shame given the great depth in ladies in the USA - some of the ones too young this year will be eligible next year and it would be a shame not to have 3 spots..............

When was the last time this ever happened to the US? I always think of the USA as a poer house when it comes to the ladies event.
