Nathan Chen

I just could not understand why he thought GP season was over while he would 100% qualify for the GPF.

I was editing my post just as you posted. I'm hoping that it's what Ella said above, that he just worded it strangely, and that what he was actually talking about was the GP season ending in terms of having completed what was originally assigned to him. Since he's already listed for the GPF as Sheetz pointed out, I would think that if he was withdrawing, then he would prob just say so. Like you said, I just really hope he's okay.

Lol guys, relax! Must we dissect every phrase in an instagram post? We know that Nathan wants to get his programs out more in competition, so he will be in the GPF. He will also be in Nationals and Olympics. Okay, if we really have to dissect this, here is my interpretation:

  • Super late to the chase - i.e., he just posted this today (when there were already 2 other completed GP assignments after Skate Canada) vs. when he actually completed his GP assignments
  • but can’t believe Grand Prix season is wrapped for me already! (he most likely meant his GP assignments)
  • Not my best skates, but looking forward to getting more opportunities to compete this season!! (i.e., GPF, Nationals, OG)
  • Thanks for all the support! #startyourimpossible (he is just a grateful guy - wants to continually thank people for the continued support)

Well, this is interesting:

Nathan Chen’s coach, Rafael Arutunian, just told me there will be major changes in three-time world champion Nathan Chen’s short and free programs before the Grand Prix Final Dec. 9-12 in Osaka, Japan. Stay tuned….

Guess this answers the question of whether he'll be at the GPF or not. And opens up about one million more.

major changes = costumes for both programs no longer will be made by vera wang...wouldn't that be a shocker. lmao.

He wouldn't be talking about brand new programs, right? I mean, there's not much time between now and the GPF for changes that grand. I'm guessing it'll be the same pieces of music, just with some changes in the choreo?

Nathan stated at SCI that he was considering switching out the Nemesis portion of the SP, so I’m thinking that. Ideally, I’d like to see the entire SP changed to something lighter, since both the SP and the FS are a little dark. For the FS, I’m thinking changes to the music cuts, but retaining the choreo sequence since that was well received by the judges. Just guessing at this point. We’re back to “wait and see” again.

TBH, I wouldn't mind if he goes back to Caravan for the short because Requiem is already gloomy on its own, or gets a new SP along that vein

I'm guessing he'll switch pieces of the free (the editing and music cuts were kind of awful) to make it flow better, and perhaps remove Nemesis or change out one of the pieces of music in the short as well. I hope he also adds in a better step sequence in the short and a bit more choreo in the long. Nathan is more than capable of a complex program with multiple quads, so I want to see that reflected in the choreo :giggle:

Omg best post ever 😂😂😂

Interview with Samarin's Coach, Svetlana Sokolovaskaya
EV: Nathan Chen or Yuzuru Hanuy?
SS: Nathan, I guess. Though I can't pick one or the other. Hanuy for me is a legend. Complicated, talented, stubborn. Nathen - a smart guy. He reminds me of Mark - he is learning new things all the time. I recall when Nathan first appeared. He was a great jumper and lacked the 2nd mark. What he is doing now is unreal.

Korean skater Sihyeong Lee described how his SP was inspired by Nathan's Prince Igor program.
A. Nathan Chen performed to this music in a free skating program at the 2017 Four Continents which hold in Korea Competition. At that time, I sat in the arena and resolved, "I want to do what Nathan Chen did someday." That's why I chose this song for the Olympic season.

Ashley briefly mentioned Nathan in a TV interview.
