Nathan Chen

Still lacks experience....

when first jump is not perfect, he maybe panicked a bit. 4T should not popped, Nathan BOI never popped a single 4T in his practices....

As it turned out, as long as you do good enough, don't need to be perfect...

Hope Nathan BOI can get over this quickly. And prepare for the individual event.
Just don't feel too sad or too much self criticize. Keep warm and healthy.

Nathan BOI did not mention anything about nerves afterwards when interviewed,

But he is visibly soooo nervous even during NBC fluff...

I was nervous when watching his mannerism on TV. but I thought I can trust his practice, his practice is great. I thought about possibility to behind Shoma. or third that is okay too. But I still think he can nail it. his first 4F was not perfect, he should do 4t-3t like he prepared in practice.which can help even with 10% bonus. But he hesitated and only tagged a -2t AND afterwards he worried, because he knew his BV (with only -2t) would not have advantage against the coming skaters. thus pop his 4T.. and fall on his 3A which he never falls in OG practices...

According to US media he's the best skater in the world, so..

Nathan in this team event SP certainly is not the best skater in the world.

But this SP is certainly NOT Nathan's true capability.

I just hope BOI now can compete with a underdog, challenger's mentality again..

EDIT: Jackie Wong's practice report is there, check it for your self, how many quad, 3A BOI has done during each practice session, almost, twice the number of other skaters.

Really a weird event all around. Fortunately, fourth place isn't a total disaster. There was always a possibility of finishing a little lower due to his watered down content anyways. Somehow I think he and Kolyada will do better in the individual event.

I just really hope he can block out all the noise and really work to have a cleaner program in the individual event. I hope he uses it as fuel rather than allow it to demoralize him. :(

I hope Nathan BOI can get rid of that horrible SP memory out of his head quickly. SP is extremely nerve racking, hope he will be mentally prepared for individual man's SP
I hope he can do full complete program run-throughs in practice as well.

Another thing might be, maybe USFS now will evaluate all men's Nathan, Adam, Vincent's FS preparation. And pick the team FS man's skater. it is still NOT officially announced yet (although words has it, Adam will do the long).

Depends on which 5 teams will go into FS, and which men will they send.

Nathan actually could do a TE FS for a redemption. If he get 1st, in the FS, that would be great for the team and his confidence too.

Treat those competition events as business as usual, I guess Nathan BOI could use a little bit this mentality.

Here's my take on Nathan's performance it's Olympic Jitters first time Olympian they were all nervous Shoma handled it a little better. It could have been worse he could have been like Koyada and placed 8th. Hopefully Nathan won't let this affect him it's better that happened to team event than an individual and he just needs to focus on the individual and just go out there and do what he does best.

US does put ALL pressure on Nathan alone. and it is indeed his first Olympics.

Nathan's practice jumps outside of SP run-thru is mostly great this week(literally twice the amount of quads and 3A as other skaters), but he has NOT done clean full run-through of SP tho.
In US nationals, Nathan is also sparkly clean in all his jumps outside of run-thru just only messed up during his SP run-thru in his first amazing official practice.

I hope Team SP doesn't knock Nathan BOI's confidence - learn from it, move on and smash the singles event. GO NATHAN :clapper:
