Nathan Chen

That's cute. He's done that before I remember.

Hey everyone is always talking about wanting him to wear certain type of clothes and a better dress shirt. Just buy them for him and he'll wear it.

You can vote if you want to https://twitter.com/icenetwork/status/984058211643940864 :slink:

Really great chat with @nathanwchen for pending @icenetwork article: "It feels incredible still" being world champion. "I'm looking towards the future and want more of those"

:hap85:

In Japan it's easy at the shows because they set up large boxes where you can drop off your gifts. In the US you probably need to do the M&G.

I don't expect him to win it, and don't really think he deserves to anyway but I'll toss him a vote anyway.

I'm interested if he'll have any new Yale information. Well, we gotta be quick to read it then before they edit it for sure.

Are skating fan clubs a "thing" in the US? Like, was there an official Michelle Kwan FC in the US?

Re: shirts, I think he likes the ones from Japan because their sizing fits him. Maybe a tie would be a better idea.

From the gifts I’ve seen Japanese fans have given to their idols, most are expensive items such as clothing, handbags, jewelry fashion items from luxury brands but his own clothes are from the States so there shouldn’t be a size issue. I think the difference in sports culture, don’t think he will have a FC here, plus the official one looks pretty quiet as an official FC, I think it’s super popular almost a necessity to have fan clubs in Asia since everyone of all industries is idolized as it seems and mostly ladies fly all over the place to see them perform or compete.

Thanks for the interview, love it that that he’s hungry for more. Btw it’s Thursday and usually just a tb day but maybe we get to see some SOI update from RI??? :)

yeah - fan clubs here aren’t really a big thing (at least I’ve never been part of one)
But guess there just needs someone to organize the Official US Nathan Chen Fan Club
Might as well be me lol

Out of curiosity - what age range are the ‘members’ of Nathan’s Japan fan club
I’ve realized that most who run the Nathan fan accounts in the US are really young - some like 13-14

I support your bid to run the Nathan Chen Fan Club in US ;-).

There was a big forum, but no club I don't think. Fanclubs aren't really much of a thing in the US.

We just need him to notice his FF! Or not, do we want him to read these comments? :scard7:

I know he has a lot of younger fans screaming Naaathhhaaan, but I'm sure a lot of his fans are older than 13-14? At least the ones running any fan accounts and the ones meeting him at M&G's too. Most I follow on twitter don't seem that young to me.

No, not Nathan forum, Michelle forum lol. I should quote. She didn't have a fanclub, but a big forum.

Oh IG, I don't follow too much. I'm more a twitter person myself.

There's quite a few Nathan twitter fan accounts popping up as he's gaining popularity. The ones with the best stuff are Korean or Japanese from what I've found. I follow quite a few US based fans though who are Nathan fans.

And yeah, he's reaching that heartthrob status so there's gonna be tons of younger girls.

This is a nice Japanese blog to follow https://ameblo.jp/constanze-m331 you get all his updates everyday even if you can't read it

I see more of a working class to housewives status group among his JP fans in general or it pretty much applies to majority of the fans there, probably age 35-60 most of them follow from the young pop idols/boy groups to similar age group in other fields such as sports. I think the age groups of FS fans here (aside from YOI fans) is more extent ranging from decades long fans, skaters/dancers and the new fans.
I’m curious as to what is considered as an “official” FC in Asia because neither Nathan website nor his social accounts listed any official FC, it appears the JP fans they function on their own in term of event attendance, banners and ways of meeting him, they don’t go through the “official” FC for access. Here, to be legally official, I believe IMG besides Nathan would need to be involved to say the least.

Just in the last month, I’ve seen so many Nathan fan accounts on IG it’s like wow ok 👌🏼 , his fan base is definitely growing for sure.

The official Japanese fan clubs had to go through IMG/Yuki, afaik.

Thanks for posting the article. But I’m already put off by the first paragraph LOL

SUNRISE, Fla., April 11 (UPI) -- Olympians Nathan Chen and Adam Rippon are friends and close teammates. But their styles of figure skating couldn't be more different. "Sass queen" Rippon is known for artistic, emotional programs that often forgo quads, while Chen is known as the "quad king," working six quads into his free skate and becoming the first to land five different kinds of quadruple jumps in a single program.

ETA: I can’t say this enough, but reducing the program length by 30 seconds while eliminating one jumping pass which takes about 5 seconds is the most ridiculous solution ISU could’ve possibly come up with to solve the “too many quads, too little program” problem. Like Nathan has already said, he’s just going to take out the easiest jump (a triple) and keep all the quads. This doesn’t take a genius to figure out. Keeping the same number of quads while losing even more room for expression and creativity - how on earth did ISU figure this was going to make men’s skating more artistic???? If anything programs will be even MORE jam packed with quads and setting up for quads.

Yeah, avoid first paragraph.

Well, I kinda liked Adam saying you aren't supposed to 6 quads. You probably aren't.

Nathan literally doesn't care what rules they change. He'll just go along with it, remove that triple and work on whatever helps him win. He's so easygoing.

And interesting answer about a 4A

Except he didn't say that.

Well, okay. That's what I got from it? Not arguing since maybe I'm misunderstanding. And it's not exactly a well written article. But at the very least he doesn't seem to think it was something they anticipated even if it did happen.

Regardless, I don't think it's a great idea to do 6 quads in a program anyway and I don't mind the rule changes other than the GOE change

And no, I don't think any of the younger guys will waste their time on a 4A, if it ever even happens with anyone but seems like something perfect for Yuzu to do who has already achieved everything.
