Nathan Chen

Nathan’s Japanese fans seem so dedicated, their birthday gifts/video etc seem like they’ve taken a lot of time and effort. The rest of us fans gotta step it up lol (jk haha)

Shoutout to his Korean fanbase too because they’re super quick with getting Nathan related video/info up.

you forget his Chinese fans :sad21:

Thank you Nathan for addressing to your Chinese Fans:luv17::love:

Making sure he'll receive a lot more of these in the future... very clever of him!:biggrin:

Really? Because supposedly he's super slow compared to other skaters, especially when people see him live. But then again, that was comparing him to the other top men, which aren't present at SOI, so...

I think his "choppy" stroking and gliding is simply his "natural" way of moving across the ice, I mean, there's bound to be different skating styles and he happens to fall on one extreme end of the spectrum (and I imagine that people from the opposite side otoh would look too sluggish and steady, and their movements might not be explosive enough).
So I'd say this is just his innate body language and for some reason this was never addressed and developed properly?

And I think it might have been even fostered further by his very busy novice and junior programs (both in his transitions and step sequences), although maybe they chose those types of programs because they suited him and they tried to use his quickness as a strength, who knows.

He was definitely not slow at SOI. Nathan is in general a very competent skater. But the number of quads does wear him down in competitions and compared to the other top skaters his ss is weaker. But weaker =/= weak.

Also agile and nimble movement is definitely not mutually exclusive from efficient, long strokes. Andrew Toegashev for example has some of the best skating skills but still is able to exhibit both very fluid and nimble qualities. Jason Brown as well.

^^ Aww, it’s only because I honestly don’t know much about his Chinese fanbase. My main source is usually through twitter but I don’t think they’re active there right? Weibo I would assume is where they post stuff about him? Does he have a big active fanbase?

Did Nathan give a shoutout to his Chinese fans ?😍

Let’s hope all Nathan’s birthday wishes come true - including perhaps improved SS

I wish him good health always as that is most important !

wow where - and did he say 陈巍 💞

nope He did not.

in a interview, he said thanks to his Japanese fans, American fans and Chinese fans.

He needs to say thanks to his Korean fans too. he may have said hello, or thank you in Korean on Korean TV during OG. I am not sure.

^ Maybe he thinks he doesn’t have much Korean fans then. I’m not sure but it seems his Korean fanbase mainly grew/became active after the Olympics no?

Thanks for sharing the video. Glad his Chinese fans are passionate. Let’s hope it grows more on his way to the 2022 Olympics, he is one of their own.

I think it was a habit that developed long term. His coaches worked oparound his condition, so he still mentally inadvertently doesn’t deepen his knees yet. It’s something he’ll have to train his body to do.

That’s very interesting, purposely changing (weakening?) his skating technique due to the Osgood Schlatter condition. But this something you are guessing or what his team had actually discussed in the past? I wasnt following him as closely in his junior days..

Wishing Nathan a healthy and fruitful 19th. Hope his family will be there in Milwaukee to celebrate with him.

You would think scheduling Milwaukee before or after Chicago made sense... and all MI cities on the same weekend, was the venue unavailable last weekend? The traveling is unreal.

hhh - yeah I was wondering about that too - the MI shows not being on the same weekend.

Nathan’s last year in the teens !!

haha a green tea latte doesn’t cut if for me - need something with way more caffeine !

I took a look back at some of Vincent's early programs and it looked like he was flying across the ice as well. Same with Nam. Perhaps after a growth spurt it takes some time for muscle strength/coordination to catch up. Nam is now starting to look better on the ice, and I do think Nathan is as well.
