Nathan Chen

I have this feeling too - piano concerto FS for 2021-22 season.

Rach 2 or another one? Because Rach 2 is the one warhorse I can never get tired of even with the same music cuts :luv17:

personally, I don't have a lot of technical knowledge knowledge about classical music but I love the sound of strings... Dvorak's Cello Concerto please

I'd rather Nathan not do a piece that is so closely associated with other champion Olympic skaters. When I hear/think/see Rach 2 I think of Chan, Lysacek and others.

Hi yyyskate 😊

I have this feeling too - piano concerto FS for 2021-22 season.

... why do you guys have this feeling? Please share the Kool-aid so I can drink it too and come to the same conclusion! ;)

If it happened, I would very happy, but I think odds are against it. If it happened, I wouldn't mind Rachmaninov 2, because the piece has a different feel depending on the cut, whether it emphasizes the 2nd movement or the 3rd. I'm sorry, Ic3Rabbit, I'm too fond of this music to give it over to Chan, Lysacek, or even Lu Chen or Daisuke Takahashi--and Daisuke is one of my all time favorites. :luv17:

Some other piano concertos I'd be very happy with:
Rachmaninov Piano Concerto 3
Grieg Piano Concerto in A
Chopin Piano Concerto 1 or 2 (yes 1, again! and I want Nadia Kanaeva to cut the music, even if someone else choreographs)
Beethoven Piano Concerto 3 or 5
Mozart Piano Concerto 20, 22, 24, 27... in fact many of them appeal to me.

I would prefer to avoid Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto 1, but at this point I'm so desperate for Nathan to skate to something balletic or classical I'd even take Bolero (*shudders*).

one more vote for Dvorak Cello Concerto. Also, Elgar's violin concerto (violin, not cello), Bruch's violin concerto. Since I'm dreaming, I might as well dream big!

My votes:
Dvořák's 9th Symphony
Smetana's Moldau Movement 2 from (Ma Vlast Symphony) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G4NKzmfC-Q
Camille Saint-Saëns - Danse Macabre mixed with Khachaturian-Masquarade Waltz (It would be epic)
Holst: The Planets: Several mixed and notably "Pluto, the Renewer" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_v8G0fo4Ws

I'm on board with New World Symphony by Dvorak, and Smetana's Moldau. I also like the Holst Planets idea--depends on the cut. But if we're talking classical or ballet, I prefer A midsummer night's dream and The Hebrides by Mendelssohn.

No love for Saint-Saens here, sorry!

Amazing art. Although Nathan looks mysteriously older, somehow. ;)

I'm personally not a Saint Saens fan either except for Danse Macabre which I suggested because it's so different and would fit Nathan.

I respect Danse Macabre, and it's certainly done well for the careers of several skaters. I'm sure Nathan could do well with it. It's just not a particular favorite.

Speaking of Saint-Saens, I kinda wish he could do another much better edited and choreographed program to the Organ Symphony. That was a bit of a wasted program to a magnificent piece.

IMO, I think (as of right now) it's not unlikely. His greatest strengths in interpreting music and choreography all mesh very well with classical music. I'm not saying that Nathan will play it safe with choreography or music choice (quite the opposite), but that he will choose music that showcases his greatest strengths and in a genre that he's already quite comfortable performing. He must be aware that we all #stan his Chopin long program, so piano seems slightly more likely (Liszt pls). And the FS is what determines the "winner" in the public's eyes because it's the latter half of the competition.

On the other hand, it's kind of hard to imagine right now, but by the next Olympics the Nathan there will have been another four years of artistic development. He will be miles more mature and have experience in a ton of different genres by 2022, and we could totally be having a different conversation then.

(Another personal wish :dance2:: I want Nathan to do hard rock at the Olympics. Wild curly hair, all black ensemble, IDGAF attitude, AC/DC's "Back in Black"... yes please!)

Not a classical expert but I feel he would pick a piece, probably a less known piece maybe in the pre 2022 OG season to test the water. I’d like to see him do a rock piece as well but the FS world is quite conservative and old school, they embrace warhorses unlike nothing I’ve seen. But like sodium, we can still wish upon a Star 🌟😄

@yyyskate Sochi was actually the 2nd Oly of Denis, he was also at Vancouver where he did a great SP.

Thanks for letting me know, I only started to watch figure skating after 2010 OG. before that, i only watched Yuna's 2009 Worlds free and 2010 OG free, all by chance.

Denis has perfect posture, just one thing (among many others) that Nathan can learn from.

Just want to report that I have arrived sun valley and can't wait to run into nathan:). Should I try my luck at the ice cream shop?

Absolutely. Win-win proposition! :) Even if you don't run into Nathan, there are lovely consolation prizes, in a variety of mouth-watering flavors. ;)

Having dinner in town center, people at next table are also going to the show tomorrow, I can tell at least one of the girls is a Nathan fan:agree2:
