Nathan Chen

I thought it was fascinating that Nathan has been doing a little coaching on the side, helping out fellow skaters. I never thought of Nathan as a person who would coach after he retired, but maybe Raf has passed on a little of the coaching bug to Nathan... It would definitely be cool for him to pass on his crazy jumping skills to new skaters in the future.

I also thought Raf's points about rule changes being made too quickly was a valid point. He said that he trained Nathan when he was young to be able to have 4 jumping passes in 30 seconds in the last half of the program for a reason, and that he laid groundwork for certain skillsets for his students years in advance, and now the ISU doesn't want so many jumps in the second half anymore. If they want to make changes, fine, but you should announce the changes, and give coaches four years to implement and prepare, rather than have rules announced in May, and have everyone make changes by October.

The + and - 5 system has been in talks for a number of years though, so that change isn't coming out of nowhere. The change in the second half bonus was pretty sudden and unplanned... now coaches need to prepare students to their combination jumps last, and that will take time for coaches to prepare their students to do.

Nathan likes to give free advices, one skater commented in this post that Nathan passed her some jump tips, and as a result she didn’t post his video as originally planned lol. I don’t think Nathan would be that private about videos like last year.

Speaking of coaching, he looked really professional, serious and observant in those Bridgestone videos and videos/pictures from that workshop he helped Karen with. He would be a good coach if he chooses.

And I think on top of coaching skills he got from Raf, he also got the boot fixing skills from Raf, remember that picture he was helping with Karen’s boots. Nathan must be this kid with huge amount of curiosity in so many things, and blessed with the ability to “ excel almost everything he does”, as commented by the mom of one of his gymnastics training mate.

Yeah, that's probably partly why he invited himself to help with Karen's workshop. Wouldn't surprise me if he started choreographing for other people, too.

I seem to remember Patrick Chan was just amazed that Nathan was actually willing to help him with quads, back when Nathan went to Zueva for choreography and stayed a while? Patrick said if it were him he's not sure he'd help someone older who's had so much more success in the sport. I can't find the exact article now, but that was the gist of it.

If giving advice comes so naturally to him, then maybe the appearances he does for Bridgestone at various rinks such as Scott Hamilton's could be fun and good learning for him while fulfilling his obligations to his sponsor--that's the best of both worlds.

Thanks sheetz as always. The video message has also been posted on the support team's twitter account. Nathan's head was not cut off the in the twitter video compared with some parts of IG video, which I am not sure if it is my own problem.

Q3 is about his costumes. He says he'll probably keep them for the first half of the season, although his mom might fancy them up a bit. For the second half of the season he may go back to Vera Wang if she's not too busy.

Q4 is about his living conditions at Yale. He says he'll have a single room but will be living with 5 others in a suite. He'll have his meals either catered or in the dining hall. About his hair, he'll get someone to cut it or else it'll be too long by the time he sees him mom again.

He may go back to Vera ... well, at least the pants should fit well :)

Raf also said statistics is a very good subject in the TSL interview.

Raf also said in the interview that he might travel to Yale if he’s on the way to Europe.

So maybe before IdF - with Romain and Marin ?

Yay, Nathan would not have sleep interruptions from a roommate then, and more spaces for his toys. Must be one of the newer ones with AC, in case he needs to stay for sometime in summer :yahoo:

oatmella, I was wondering if your account has been hacked or something. How come no comment on possible hair cut

Time to test the love for Nathan with possible vw costumes lol

sheetz, it is so sweet and considerate of you to translate these for us.

haha - can Nathan’s mom please give him a haircut before Champs camp :)

I thought he meant when he’s at school, he will have to get someone other than mom to cut his hair.

I wish she was too busy to work with Nathan........😐

It feels like the black Le Corsaire outfit with the curls was a decade ago. We've had so many costume and hair trials to endure since then. :eeking: :palmf:

Anyway, my new stance is keep the Land of All costume. If Mom wants to tweak anything, just shorten the sleeves a couple of inches.

And wouldn't Vera insist on the *hair* going back to the 2018 Nationals recently-discharged-from-the-army look? Is bun-loving Nathan going to sign up to be shorn again?

What's with his obsession with Vera Wang? Their styles just don't mesh. His natural style already tends to be more quick/sharp so he needs something more flowy to compliment his skating and make his skating look more expansive, especially with the FS he has chosen. VW's pretentious, super streamlined atheleisure costumes will add NOTHING to his skating. :sad21:

Not late to change mind... No more Vera costume😭
Agree with @shine said, it will add NOTHING to his skating.

And hope his mother develop his costume.SP costume suit for program, but shirts need it to be more fit on him. And FS costume, i like the mood, but need to develop more .....🙏🙏
