I thought it was fascinating that Nathan has been doing a little coaching on the side, helping out fellow skaters. I never thought of Nathan as a person who would coach after he retired, but maybe Raf has passed on a little of the coaching bug to Nathan... It would definitely be cool for him to pass on his crazy jumping skills to new skaters in the future.
I also thought Raf's points about rule changes being made too quickly was a valid point. He said that he trained Nathan when he was young to be able to have 4 jumping passes in 30 seconds in the last half of the program for a reason, and that he laid groundwork for certain skillsets for his students years in advance, and now the ISU doesn't want so many jumps in the second half anymore. If they want to make changes, fine, but you should announce the changes, and give coaches four years to implement and prepare, rather than have rules announced in May, and have everyone make changes by October.
The + and - 5 system has been in talks for a number of years though, so that change isn't coming out of nowhere. The change in the second half bonus was pretty sudden and unplanned... now coaches need to prepare students to their combination jumps last, and that will take time for coaches to prepare their students to do.
