Nathan Chen

I said that a skater and designer are going to do what they want regardless of if someone likes it or not, because ultimately it's not up to that person.

You can criticize it all you want but again, it doesn't really do much. :confused2:

erm... I don't know but what matters to me is if the costume is well fitted, (not frumpy) and if it showcases the athlete's beautiful skating instead of being too elaborate and distracting... Nathan's costumes, though they may have been simple from time to time, are just right (haven't seen this year's yet) ... but I alsoi think that he could wear just about anything as he is just very elegant and naturally handsome. It's hard to be a Chan fan, then a Nathan fan... when it is about costumes... but what I can say from that experience is that patrick had designer costumes until sochi... and then went with very simple modern ones after sochi... he was gorgeous in both... and if i had my preferences, what matters in the end is the skating and how the skater feels like... what he prefers to wear... if Nathan likes his costumes, it is up to him. Go Nathan GO!!!

Caravan trailer - costume design by Bolt :)

Seems that Nathan returning to the Vera uniforms at some point is inevitable ... I actually liked the Veras last season (well eventually), so I don’t think it’s so bad.

The Caravan uniform doesn’t fit well and no need to show his Nike Pros at a competition lol.

Love the caravan trailer  coming soon in October  this will be my first full season as a FS/Nathan fan:luv17: this time last year I couldn’t even name all the jumps :o: I enjoyed watching figure skating casually only because I loved the elegance, the speed, the smoothness and the carefree feeling skaters brought to me on the ice. I could feel the ice sparkles melting on my skin and the cool breeze blowing to my face through the tv screen, I also loved watching how their dresses dancing on the ice,and that’s all I cared about. To me all skaters were wonderful and I only wished I could move on the ice like them. I never cared about who jumped what or who won until I found Nathan.:o:

As for Nathan going back to VW, I felt a little disappointed too, not because I didn’t like her design last season, just that I was hoping for some changes, Like how Nathan changed his styles again, it will be less interesting if his costume style stays the same.

More flowy costumes with greater movement, color ... doesn't seem to be Nathan's preferred aesthetic, he lives in Nike gear and wears a lot of black.

Since Nathan was involved in the design process for his previous Veras, it seems those were the looks he wanted, and the end result was flattering to his physique and looked great in movement - and no weird bunching, which seems to be a complaint about Nathan's non-costumes. The materials looked super high quality and comfortable.

And it is possible that Nathan gained some new fans as well from the Veras - didn't yyyskate fall for him after seeing him wearing the Vera pants at Nationals SP :)

This goes without saying and applies to all the discussions here, so what’s your point? This is a discussion board and we are all entitled to our opinions, pro skaters or fans. And I don’t think we really need someone to remind us whether our opinions matter or not.

Cute photo of Raf and the Hondas.

Loooks like Raf has lost some weight - he is looking slimmer lately!

Re: Vera. On the whole I'm fine with Nathan's VW costumes, even if I sometimes scratch my head at them. Like them or not, they generate buzz and, as heyheyhey mentioned, it helps to build Nathan's brand. I'm sure there were be a few magazine articles written about his next VW costumes, and both fans and haters will be eagerly waiting to give their two cents.

Nathan doesn't seem much into fashion so I'm assuming he really likes how they feel.

That costume with 2 white stripes (U.s. nationals) was a complete failure.

The uhm snake scale costume (previously with a silver zipper) was very good (except for the long sleeves covering the palms).

The black-grey-white one was... meh. Nothing. So was the last fs costume with a white collar. Well fitting but not bright or/and memorable.

But the only good one (snake scales/Chinese brush strokes whatever) was stolen from Lysachek's, lmao, what a shame, Vera.

To sum up, there was no good original ideas from Vera last season. We'll look what will she come up with.

A few thoughts on Nathan and VM brand. First of all, I will be very surprised if Nathan had to pay for the VM costumes because 1) AFAIK, skating costume is not her line of business, she is not trying to make profit from it 2) VM gets involved with FS because of her own passion with the sport. There is no better way for her to support the sport than designing costumes for Olympians.

Talking about marketing, I think the benefit VM brand receives hugely outweights what Nathan gets. Nathan builds his image with his solid atheleic achievements, quad king title (like it or not), handsome look, unique style on the ice, acdemic excellence, s**y voice, signature curls ... (fangirling continues). I doubt how much effect will VM brand add to Nathan's existing and potential fans. OTOH, VM brand was constantly mentioned during the Nationals, worlds and Olympics. Not just that, the VM costumes will be reminded again and again when people talk about Nathan's OG story (coming up 2022 BJ). The marketing benefit in term of both brand awareness and image enhancement is huge! How much $$$$$ do big corperations have to pay for the TV prime time spots, marketing strategy development, commercial productions, rink ad board placement etc. to perhaps generate way less impressions while all VM did was designing the costumes.

In my opinion VM should pay Nathan for wearing her costumes.:p By the way, I can imagine VM design LOA costume, but Caravan?:scratch3:
