Nathan Chen

In addition to having other things to focus on besides skating while he’s at Yale, it also seems that the more limited training time is better for him in regard to health and injuries.

In awe of what he’s been able to achieve this season so far:luv17:

When Nathan describes his training schedule he makes it sound fairly reasonable but in truth there are likely not many skaters who could make it work. I honestly feel his experiences juggling multiple extracurricular activities as a child along with his time spent away from Raf with Marina have provided him with the mental skills needed to handle the situation.

Well, I scaled the PCS back at least 10 points for each program and took out 1 point for each TEs again for both SP and LP and it put the so-called "inflation" and then I capped it at around 30. Don't get me wrong. I don't think he should get 30 points less. Just wondering what You-Know-Who's fans are so worried about. They say Nate will NEVER be as magnificent as You-Know-Who is but always feel the need to almost physically reassure themselves by sullying Nathan's YT comment section. I mean, some people say Uno or Kolyada are nipping at Nate's heels but I've NEVER seen Nathan fans say stuff like "Uno/Kolyada will never be as good as Nathan" (probably 'cause our boy gives us a considerable amount of security both tangible and intangible).

Oh my goodness! Me too! I think I've seen the free at least 7 times today! That was ethereal yet manly skating in my opinion!

Thank you for the response!

I'm a huge Shoma fan, but rest assured I will never say anything against Nathan's deserved win at US Nats. Shoma has great respect for Nathan (e.g he cited Nathan's magnificent FS at the Olympics as one of the performance that had moved him the most, the most moved he had felt throughout the whole event). It makes me very excited to see how well the 3 quadsters (Boyang, Nathan and Shoma) had done in their respective nats, and I for one can't wait for Worlds. It would be a very exciting event, I think.

The boy is finally on twitter, replying to Adam's lovely tweet

Jackie commented on Nathan's feet, and Javi, Eric, EB etc all liked it.

"but Nathan Chen has two of the most nimble feet in the business"

lol this comment from Jazz fan
"Wait, that's the skating kid that our 9yo is obsessed with watching right now. He's a Jazz fan?"

Not just nimble feet, but Nathan’s arms, wrists and hands:luv17:

SP wasn’t as off-kilter and wild as at SA, but I loved the more fluid arms and wrists:luv17:

When I saw that Nathan when to Montreal the first week of his winter break, known nationals was going to be good. He did the same thing in 2016, before nationals. Just like then, his programs were improved over the GPF. His edges were better, better speed and his jumps were superb! I'm super happy with his progress.

I'm not surprised Raf wants him to get his other quads back. But I think the attention on fewer quads has increased the quality of his other jumps.

As for the comments, that happens everytime Nathan does really well. I just ignore them. All great skaters have detractors.

Nathan is so "bad" in the sense that he made things look so easy but in reality they are extremely hard, if not impossible for majority of people, like his quads.

I agree with everything you said, and besides those, I really admire his determination and courage. The first semester must be really tough for him, and it is not like he didn't have a moment of self doubt if he can balance Yale and elite skating. So proud to see him pulled through those difficulties. He is such a inspiring role model.

Thanks sheetz, oatmella, HollyMolly for all the links. Those videos, articles would help a lot in the upcoming mini drought between now and the worlds in March.

And I agree with sheetz again Nathan should hang out more with JLB lol

to rainmaker, I stopped reading comments if there are more than 70 or 80 for all his competition videos since 4cc 2017. I did read most of the comments for his videos from younger years . You know he did a good job if the there more lots of comments for a certain video ;)

Nathan Chen Is Dominant, Again
https://deadspin.com/nathan-chen-is-dominant-again-1832105956/amp

All season long, he’s been juggling academics, training, competition that took him out of the country. He told NBC Sports that his professors have been accommodating of his travel schedule.

(Can you imagine if they weren’t? If one of those Yale professors was a **** about it and asked the top ranked male skater in the world, “Mr. Chen, what could possibly be more important than my class?” I do not doubt that there is at least one Yale professor who considers his course to be more important than the Grand Prix Final.)

...

And then he nearly tripped and fell as he made his way to the winner’s podium. I think he did this on purpose just to be appear relatable to the rest of us non-skating mortals.

No Wonder Nathan Chen's Free-Skate Routine Won Gold — It's Absolutely Breathtaking

Stunning. Elegant. Awe-inspiring. Beyoncé-level flawless. There truly aren't enough words in the dictionary to describe Nathan Chen's free-skate routine at the 2019 US Figure Skating Championships. The 19-year-old athlete earned his third consecutive national title on Jan. 27 after captivating the audience (and the judges) with a performance set to "Land of All" by Woodkid. Nathan started the routine with a bang by landing a quadruple lutz, and he went on to execute three more quad jumps to perfection, earning him a total score of 228.80 points.

Somewhat ironically, when Nathan headed to the podium to accept his gold medal, he tripped over the rug situated on top of the ice rink. LOL! But hey, at least he didn't lose his footing during the competition. Ahead, watch Nathan's medal-winning free-skate routine, followed by a clip of his oh-so-relatable stumble. Congrats to the reigning champ!

Just want to say thank you to everyone who responded to my questions and gave me thumbs ups (is 'ups' a word?)! I swear I'm the dumbest in technology and social media for my age of early 20s (Facebook used to be rocket science to me up until a year ago). I swear I am seeing your thumps ups/quoted replies in my dashboard only TODAY and I'm such a softie and so very easy to please that it warms my heart. Especially to @oatmella who actually welcomed me to Nathan's FF! Thank you all so much! 🤩

I also don't know if it's the place to share this, (probably not) but it's still somewhat related to Nathan, however loosely so here goes: hubby and I just found out today that we're having a little man. 😇😍 As I've mentioned before, future son will be named Nathan/Nathaniel. With my hubby being an 'Ed' and my real name starting with an 'N', we decided we'd name him Edmund Nathaniel. Mum thinks it's a hokey name combo, but hubby approved of it, even (or perhaps ESPECIALLY) the name 'Nathaniel' because he thinks, someday when our son asks his mum why we gave him the name that he has, I could tell him about "that Olympian kid you loved back in the day who went from near bottom of the pack to 5th place and also went to Yale." 🤣

Of course I can't put that kind of pressure on my child by telling him how great his namesake is! But I can't say I'm not tempted. 😋 I mean, I was named after a legendary gymnast and even though that did not turn me into an Olympic athlete or even a competent gymnast, she taught me perseverance and to strive for perfection, if anything!
