2. Nathan Chen had a remarkable season, even if judged only by what he did on the ice.

When one puts his undefeated record in the context of having done it while simultaneously being a full-time freshman student at Yale University whose coach was 3,000 miles away, Chen’s was a season for the ages.
...
Chen has not yet decided – or perhaps just not yet announced – whether he will be a full-time student again next season, although there doesn’t seem any reason to mess with success given there are two more seasons before the next Olympics.

If Yale allows him three straight semesters off – and the University already has been very accommodating of his travel schedule and his need for ice time on the Yale rink – it would make more sense for him to take an academic leave beginning with the second half of the 2020-21 season and academic year and going through the 2022 Winter Games.

Fall of 2020 is probably the latest Nathan can go on leave to prepare for Beijing. If he has to reapply for admission to Yale then so be it. But they would be crazy to not take him back, and I'm sure there are plenty of other top universities who would gladly accept him if they don't.

I think so too - Spring 2021 seems too late to take academic leave. I think he will be able to work something out with Yale - they seem to have been accommodating to him so far.

Nathan never mentioned staying at Yale past the Spring 2020 semester anyways.

Article: Learning To Balance College With Skating Led To A Flawless Season For Nathan Chen

Each month, Team USA Awards presented by Dow celebrates outstanding achievements of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Figure skater Nathan Chen won Male Athlete of the Month for March 2019 after claiming his second consecutive world title in Saitama, Japan, posting the top scores in both the short program and free skate. The victory completed a perfect season for Chen. In his Diamond Club feature, presented by Dow, we look at how Chen did it all while also balancing college coursework at Yale.

I can't imagine Yale not doing pretty much whatever Nathan wants and giving him whatever time he needs. And there's no way they wouldn't take him back even if he had to reapply. It's a nonissue. It just depends on when he decides is best to take his leave.

About the Nathan TV appearance - I was so excited to watch him on tv! I thought I was on the right channel ... got tired after 30 min of no Nathan and had to go to sleep.

Turns out the show was only broadcast in the Osaka area:p

From the Team USA article: ‘Chen has emerged from the ivy a fitter and more tenacious skater.’

He has also been a more sensible and thoughtful skater as well - and no more YOLO quads this season (Japan Open didn’t count:p)

Also “I have been able to develop my personality away from skating,” he reflected at worlds.

He seems to have matured and grown a lot! More confident and articulate as well.

“All the US skaters compete amongst each other and not against each other, which is a really cool feeling. I really like that, especially since the team event is implemented in the Olympics as well, so it’s good to have a sort of trial run before the Games,” two-time World Champion Nathan Chen (USA) noted.

Pardon me for interrupting everyone's serious discussions, but what is cyzowoman.com, sheetz? they now have a second article about Nathan. :)

I skimmed the articles but it's just an online women's magazine/blog that's more interested in his looks and style than anything he does on the ice. Nice fluff but not worth any serious discussion.
