Nathan Chen

Awesome performance, but I just wish he'd get a new shirt. Why is no one telling him how ill fitted this shirt is?! It makes him look so hunched over! Also wasn't there rumours that he was getting a new exh?

I doubt he cares. If he could I'm sure he would just wear Nike warmups instead of costumes for all his programs. Maybe you can tweet Adam to bug him about it.

I don't remember anything about him getting a new EX.

Nathan was amazing at the gala, this grand prix is the most unpredictable (for qualifiers and retreats for various reasons) and in the middle of the Olympic season, a brief wait to see him again, once again at the Grand Prix Final, Bravo Nathan !! :yahoo:

Wow, what a gala! What amazes me still is that he wears such simple costumes this season (I wouldn't even call them costumes!) but his skating has so many flourishes that it is hardly noticeable. Infact, I feel like anything more "flashy" would be a distraction. All those years of ballet did wonders. What a master.

Hey! Long time lurker, first time poster here! Just wanted to say congrats to Nathan on making it to the GPF! (and surviving this season so far, really) Mao's Last Dancer is a gorgeous program and I'm sure it will come together with time :agree2: I'm super proud of him regardless

He hit a great quad toe.... in the exhibition of course.

I notice both his blades are now black (new) in the exh and he has no problem doing that 4T, not a black (new, left) and another chrome (old, right) he wore at yesterday's FS. Maybe the new blade was not the problem as both 4F and 4T falls in the FS were due to the outside edge of the old, right blade didn't grab the ice well after landing. I suspect the difference in the sharpness of the new and old blades made him feel not used to them and caused all the jumping problems and doubt in his mind during the FS.

I agree! At least the shirts he has been wearing in lieu of his final costumes fit him well, and look better than the random black outfit he wore last year during the grand prix.

In the past, he also wore a red tie, and I think not having the tie made the shirt look a little bit better. Hopefully once he actually gets his real costumes, he can wear either his black shirt or his blue shirt for his exhibition.

After SA, I wanna say to young and humble Nathan Boi,
Please always keep the attitude of a challenger, no matter it is challenge others or challenge yourself, be humble as your always are. Let your performance speak for itself. Earn the heart and love of US as well as the global audience one performance at a time! Then shall the whole world know what a ONCE in generation figure skating talent you truly are!
I believe in you!!!

A few interesting bits.

Japanese media is fast! Ad for GPF in Japanese subway entrance:

In some of Nathan's pics you might see him carrying around a canvas bag he received from a fan. It's from Rope Picnic, a ladies fashion store. Not sure if Nathan is aware of this, but Japanese fans find it amusing.

FujiTV Skating with tweet about Nathan's results from SA. Kind of cool that the only other skaters they tweeted about were Japanese.

The president of Nathan's JP Facebook fanclub traveled to Lake Placid and will be uploading a message from him after she returns to Japan. I believe she is the one holding up his banner in the Skate America videos.

He was really quite humble in the post-Skate America FS interview. It was lovely to see :)

I am planning to make a poster for Nathan to bring with me to the upcoming Nationals. Initially, I thought it would be cute to showcase a throwback photo of Nathan from his Novice days. But if any of you ardent Nathan supporters have any other creative and clever ideas for a poster, I am all ears!

You want something that would the draw the attention of the TV cameras. Something like "CHEN-SATIONAL!!!"

A picture of Nathan with his suit of Michael Jackson (I loved it) although the suit of Polovtsian dances has been eternally recorded in the memory of fans and retractors (I could read in the SA training forum that someone posted "Chen has returned to last year's program" and in the forum they made a fuss hehehehe) :hap93:

I feel envy (of the good) because you can see him in live, if I'm going to ask for a VISA to USA "Because I want to see my favorite skaters" the embassy will send me by a tube
Aparte que mi nivel de inglés es tan básico snif snif :disapp:

Positive energies for the Grand Prix Final and the Nationals and then ... to defend the title of the 4 Continents! Go Go Go Nathan! :hap10:

Thanks for the suggestions! I also am a big fan of the Michael Jackson costume (and program), though I agree that last year's programs are the ones that seem to have reached icon status. I am a total cornball and love puns like "CHEN-SATIONAL." :yay:

Maybe I'll go with a picture of Nathan in one of his iconic costumes and use the phrase, "Nathan is CHEN-SATIONAL" to take something from each of your suggestions.

I may be wrong but I doubt that Nathan will go to 4CC this year (medal contenders for the Olympics usually skips it because it's to near to the event and requires long flight...also, they actually don't go that often to 4CC either with the exception of the years before the Olympics, when 4CC is on the Olympic ice and they want to test it and the arena; this is the reason for the mass partecipation of "stars" last year). But we will wait to see what happens at GPF and how much momentum he gains here.
