Nathan Chen

I can't believe he won. He was getting so little height on his jumps I don't know if he was nervous or what.

As far as I know Nathan has never lost a competition after winning the SP.

By availability issues I see the skating by streeming and was about to fight with another skater's fans for the sudden 10-point TES discount and for his jokes about Nathan's hand movements :furious: , but then I remembered Nemesis, "The karma exists ", so I waited and Nathan won!! :yahoo:

I could feel hope and calm again in the final part of the program :) , the program is not ready yet, but I feel it will be wonderful, the Olympics will be incredible :hap57:

Congratulations Nathan :gclap: , a true champion is being born

I'm thinking it may be time to think about dropping the 4S as well. There's just so much pressure in the Olympic season he needs to be more conservative.. Just repeat 4Lz and 4F. I don't know why he's so stubborn.

Can he just do a triple salchow instead? It looks like Nathan still lacks enough energy to get into the program to perform and to execute
clean jumps at the same time. He got one < and one << today.

I am overjoyed that Nathan won but sad to say his performance here looked stressful to me just like at Skate America.

I had that thought too about him just repeating the 4F and the 4LZ. Since he's been doing a serviceable job with them in the SP (particularly the 4LZ/3T) - it might make sense to just do that. He's also shown he can do a 4F combo also - but I guess they'd have to make sure he didn't do too many 3t's. I would definitely take the salchow out and kind of follow last year's plan where he adds it only if he's feeling like it'll work.

Either way, he's got some figuring out to do before Nationals. They really need to set a layout now and just drill it from this point on. Raf said that's what they would do a couple of months ago, that they would set the final layout in December after the GP - but who knows if they'll actually stick to that.

I wasn't really happy with that performance. I made some big mistakes but it's always great to
compete at a big arena like this and to get in the numbers in before the rest of the season. Not
really the performance I was expecting to do here but I will take it as a good experience and just try to
improve from here. There were some technical things that I know I can fix and these things I just
adjust as the season goes on. Especially the quad toe I know I was tired toward the end so I wasn't
able to get the lift that I needed, but the only thing I can do is keep working on it. This Grand Prix
Final was obviously very different without Yuzuru (Hanyu), I definitely feel that the audience wasn't
as into the program as if Yuzuru was here but it was cool to be able to allow some of the other
skaters to have the opportunity to be at the Grand Prix Final, always an awesome experience here
especially in Japan. Now I just need the rest that I need heading into Nationals and focus on doing
the best that I can there so that I can secure my spot for the Olympic Games. I'm still not at the level
that I want to be at so I have a lot of work to do.

Well... his weakness is still the edge jump but too bad he fell on 4T. Congrats on the GPF gold.

some feedback from Nathan's fans across the pond in China

As I mentioned before, Nathan this season started to garner more and more fans in China even though he never competed in China this season.
Mostly they felt sad about Nathan's FS GPF outing(some hardcore fans even felt angry, just because they have invested so much in Nathan, a lot of expectation, but dont worry too much about that Nathan Boi:biggrin:). Although, Nathan eventually won the GPF, mostly fans are more concerned about his performance than result.

Like I said before, Nathan's FS is quite special and sentimental to Chinese fans, they even have higher expectation in Nathan's FS than the short, They eagerly hope that Nathan can perform his FS to its full potential in this season.

There are also speculations that, perhaps Nathan is injured etc. You know, fans always worry too much:biggrin: Also, many think that maybe it is due to the jet lag, Nathan was spotted yawn a lot during both his SP and FP, personally, I don't know the yawn is due to jet lag, lack of sleep or nervousness, maybe a combination of all these.

But in the end, Nathan's performance especially the FS is indeed a bit sloppy, seems lacks of his usual energy (some angry yet doting Chinese fans even joked that he is day-dreaming thru his long, dont read too much into that, this is just tough love in Chinese style), and he himself also mentioned he STILL lacks stamina during his 4T.

No matter what the reason is, I hope Nathan, Team Nathan can find a effective way to address those, those reasons will soon become excuses, before long...

To bomb FS 2 times in a row is indeed a bit worrisome, Chinese fans hope this will NOT hinder Nathan's mental strength!! please do not become some kinda mental block. Hope Nathan Boi can still have his confidence and attack like a little lion king (BTW, loved that "can not wait to become the king" video, sooo cute, Nathan Boi is STILL on his journey!).

As for lay-out, I really don't know what to say now.... some suggested maybe do the 4loop as the edge jump for higher BV instead of 4S. Nathan's 4LZ, 4F are all quite consistent according to practices, 4S consistency is just a bit lower. I guess perhaps he just did not pay too much attention to easier quads, as well as his 4T.

4lz, 4F errors may just due to a slit second nerve. I hope Nathan can learn to relax and pace himself well in FS future outings.

Also, practice your spins even if you don't like it:biggrin:. it is kinda weird that Nathan cannot sit low enough in his SP sit spin. maybe some injury?

I guess I covered all feedbacks

As always, hope Nathan Boi, healthy and happy and good luck!

EDIT:
Also, costumes, that sweat staining under his armpits has to go:yes:
Also, postures, never let go your postures Nathan Boi:biggrin:

Poor Nathan. This skate really hurt his feelings. When they turned the camera back to him in the kiss and cry he was wiping his eyes discreetly. He works so hard to put out a perfect performance, and it gets away from him. Without Yuzuru to take the lead, it’s clear that everyone will think he’s a favorite for gold. It’s a heavy burden. Maybe when Yuzuru comes back and kicks butt again, Nathan can relax in his skating again.
