Nathan Chen

I dearly hope Lysacek’s costumes are not an indication of what Nathan’s will look like.....

I thought Evan's tuxedo costume was good and that was designed by Wang. Apparently his Vancouver costumes were more of a collaborative effort, so hopefully Nathan's style will be reflected in his new costumes. I wonder if this is a one time deal or if they have a long term agreement.

I went back to watch Nathan's FS from the US International Classic and couldn't stop reminiscing how beautiful and mesmerizing the program looked in that event, the wonderful pacing and how he was breathing and feeling every note of the music, and finally how the triumphant ending brought the tears when I first watched it. I hope with all my heart he will give the performance this program deserves before the season ends. But if not, I'm glad I'll always have this particular performance to cherish.

Nathan only needs time, I remember that his first presentations with Polovtsian dances he spent almost a third of the program on the cold ice of the rink (ouch) :palmf: , I can remember the commentators indicating that "Marina Zueva must be tougher with him so that do not make those changes at the last minute ... four or five quads is too much " :curse: etc etc until the 2016 GPF arrived, they all exchanged criticism for flattering comments and congratulations to Raf and Nathan (and the Russians always mentioned Marina)

I agree with Shine in something, in the US International Classic I stayed like "I don't want it to end, those 4 minutes were gone in the blink of an eye", in the other presentations you see Nathan's struggle and effort, but hey, with his other programs with quads he also battled and in the end we already know the results :hap10:

PS: I wonder what color they will choose for Nathan's new costume (somewhere I heard blue is one of his favorite colors) personally I like how he looks with red, black or white
Nathan in tuxedo made Vera Wang awwww I dream.. dream... :luv17:

The show Nathan was scheduled to appear in yesterday was canceled at the last minute due to the Santa Barbara wild fire. From what I gather the skaters were being put up at the Ritz Carlton so in the end it turned out to be a nice mini-vacation.

Incredible fanart, drawn in the style of a Japanese serialized comic. Anyone who's read these kinds of comics before will appreciate the cleverness.

Main text: An incredible performance!
Left side text: Nathan advanced to the final with his 2 consecutive wins. He's the leader after the short.
Bottom text: End of Chapter 34. Next issue: Can he break away from his pursuing rivals? The fated free skate begins.

it is a fancam, very close-up focus of Nathan's FS COR practice (all choreo and steps no jump) from behind.
the floating and flow. His practice clothes! it reminds me of Patrick's SP practice at 2013 worlds!!!
Also, the way how he dances, especially his dance timing. I just wanna say, he really understand dance.

Yeah, he's SO into the music and the program in this particular run through. You can even see him kind of directing the music like a director with this hands at around 3:42. The practice outfit also does a better job at letting the subtle movement like a change in the back posture be seen. Love it.

Yes, thank you yyyskate for sharing this video. In this video Nathan is energetic and in full control of the music and choreography.
I still can not go back to re-watch Nathan's LP at any of his gp and gpf or I just stopped in the first half.

I wonder if he could perform a watered down, more heavily choreographed version for SOI. It's supposed to be filmed for TV (with mistakes redone) so we'd get a perfect performance for all posterity.

I was able to purchase the kindle version of World Figure Skating magazine with the post-Rostelecom interview with Nathan. Here's my translation of the first portion.

Q: This season you won your first GP title at your first GP event.
A: I’m satisfied with this competition. It’s the first event so there are still some rough spots. I’ll have to practice more but since it’s the first competition none of the skaters are perfect. For the start of the season I’m glad I could demonstrate that I’m one of the top skaters. This being the Olympic season makes it even more significant. It gives me a lot of confidence.

Q: You used Shae Lynn Bourne for your SP choreographer.
A: The reason I decided to use Shae is because I train alongside Ashley Wagner and was able to see up close how she can portray a character and personality in her programs. I always want to continue advancing so I thought working with famous choreographers like Shae and Lori might guide me to a new level. I went to Lori first, and at the beginning she just observed me. She had me skate however I wished and saw how I moved and my way of thinking. It was upon that basis that she then began to choreograph. Initially her choreography wasn’t necessarily the easiest for me to execute, but it helped that I completely got into it. I was able to understand how I could grow my artistry and how to move in the proper way. From the music she drew out a concept, and then suggested to me a story that I could create with my performance. After that my work with Shae felt completely different. I told her I wanted to skate an edgy program and so she had me listen to various musical selections she had prepared.

Q: You approached this season with the same mindset as usual, but being the Olympic season I would think it’s special.
A: I’ve never been to an Olympics so I don’t know how I should prepare for it. (LOL) There are things to do to try to train for it but I still don’t know how to predict what will happen. What I can do is prepare my body and mind to the best of my ability. In the short term I just accomplish smaller goals one by one and not worry about things that are too far ahead.

Thanks sheetz, I can't wait USA nationals :yahoo:

Merry Christmas, really I think: la mamá de Adam es adorable

New costume, new hair style.... good luck, Nathan :hap57:

I’m glad to see an Asian is cutting his hair. Asian hair is so different from Caucasian hair... and on top of that, Nathan’s hair is naturally curly!

Nathan's Facebook FC is getting a new banner designed by the same YOI artist who created the last one.

A Day in the Life With Nathan Chen

Curious that in the article Nathan specifically mentions products from his sponsors (Kelloggs, Core Power/Coca Cola), and then he mentions Hershey's, which as far as I know has not yet been named as one of his sponsors. I wonder if there will be a sponsorship announcement in the future.
