Nathan Chen

I'm sure pictures will be out soon, but FS costume is more subtle. All over matte black with a stripe of shinier (pleather?!) across the left shoulder and wrapping to his waist, where it seems to peter off. Personally I think it's more appropriate for his short not the free. On his way off the ice from this morning's practice he discreetly coughed into his elbow twice. *prays that it's just rink coldness*

I saw some pictures of it on Twitter - agreed that it looked like a better choice for his SP. How was his practice?

I took a tour backstage and missed half his practice, but I saw Raf animatedly talking to Brian Boitano while the men were in the changing room. No pictures were allowed of the athletes but I was def eyeballing all of them going in. Also, boy has some ridiculously defined calves even when walking normally.

At this point, I don't know why he couldn't have just worn the black nike practice outfit that he always wears for both his SP and LP. I don't think it would've made a difference and I actually prefer them as i get to see his neck :palmf:

Agreeing to the ones I've made bold. Except for the obvious zipper on his back, I thought this costume fits for his SP too. If that's the case though, does his mom has an emergency costume stashed in her closet? :)

Yes to this. And his bod too.

Vera sure likes long sleeves... again, covering up half of his hands :rolleye:... this would annoy me to death, if I had to wear such a costume, drives me mad just looking at them ;) just wanna roll them up already!

So strange she went with such close-fitting outfits twice... makes me really question her understanding of movement and how fabric can emphasise this... it just changes his whole silhouette and the shapes his body creates. I loved the way the sleeves of his old shirt blew in the wind and how the fabric was flowing around him.

ETA: And I never cared about the pit-stains, people should loosen up about such things! :)

I noticed he was also coughing into his elbow at the end of the SP warm-up...

Yes to this. And his bod too.

Made me laugh so much, when I saw those shots in that video... that's fan service, if I ever saw one.

Always makes me wonder, if they have the person concerned approve of such footage before they publish it, or if they just follow them around filming all day long, so that they lose track of what exactly got caught throughout the day, once they have to sign off on it...

And why is Vera Wang so into zippers in the back?! I think both costumes would look a lot better without the zippers. They make the costumes look like sport sweaters/jackets and Nathan looks like a speed skater not a figure skater. Minimalist could've been done so much better. I'm not into this whole bringing atheleisure into figure skating costumes thing for Nathan as it kind of feeds into the jumper repuation/image that some sees him as even more.

The zippers are so bling-y, it was really a focal point when his back is turned. Why was that designed? Black zippers exist!

Ugh, that 3A...

But still job well done. You don't get Nathan's competitive record without being able to deliver when you're less than 100%.

According to my source

Nathan's 3A is actually looking good in this event.

But he is indeed seems tired towards FS end.

and the switch of jumps, messed up his stsq timing, which is unfortunate.

But BOI get the job done.

I hope we can get more practice videos from Nathan's Japanese fan club or other fancams.

So that Nathan fans can have a better idea about Nathan's condition in this event.

but it was great that there is a clip of Nathan's perfect FS stsq practice. So that Nathan diehard fans can have a better idea about what his FS stsq intended to be.
