I have a genuine question here as I guess I am relatively new to posting on this forum - I am mostly just on this thread and I hope this is appropriate to post here. But does Nathan always get this much hate ?! It goes far further than criticism - there's mocking, name-calling etc. Apparently to some he cannot jump, cannot skate, has nonexistent artistry and cannot even hear his own music. I will assume these posters are mostly insecure because they see Nathan as a threat to their favorites. Some of the double standards seem way too much though.
Nathan's programs this season were daring choices - both unique and non-mainstream and I wonder if this combined with his natural and unaffected style of movement is not easily appreciated by some. I think his ballet training has helped him develop a sense of effortless to his movement - he makes it looks so easy and that he's not even trying - though that is really not the case. I have no doubt that Nathan could perform the heck out of a more mainstream/obvious piece like Four Seasons with dramatic hand flourishes, facial expressions of 'pain' etc. But he is developing his own unique style and aesthetic, which is more modern and different than any skater out there.
As someone who has played piano for 15 years - I don't see how one could argue that he is deaf to the music. The Rite of Spring is a challenging piece and he has to be really precise during that step sequence. I know a few Stravinsky lovers who got excited about Nathan this year just because of that Rite of Spring section.
Apparently some are arguing he can't jump either - which is a bit ironic considering he also gets hate for supposedly only focusing on jumps. And that programs with only triples because they're so *flawless* and *artistic* should have been placed ahead of him yesterday - smh. This is a sport. Apparently being one of the only guys with a 4F (and poor Vincent in one day has gone from mostly under the radar to the subject of extreme hate) makes some people really insecure.
The complete hate towards Nathan is really gross to see. And I have yet to see anyone make a well-thought-out argument of why he has extremely poor presentation, etc.
