Nathan Chen

some perspective for Nathan's fans here.
Both Wakaba and kaetlyn's training consistency are very good in this comp, and they came into this comp although carrying lots of pressure to earn spots for their feds, but none of them actually had huge expectation for podium finish (maybe kaetlyn, but she is not expecting gold as well)
Nathan's jump consistency in OP is 50/50

Skating last, Skating with huge expectation are all just small steps Nathan will have to take on his path towards a great skater, a great champion.

I saw some photos, maybe Nathan watched Lady's SP, I would hope Nathan watched Wakaba's FS live. To feel the inspiration.

also to Nathan, to shut up any doubters and haters is to give out a performance like Wakaba did in her FS today.

Nathan has skated last before and even after the Pooh rain. I just hope he skates for himself and enjoy his beautiful FS with us one last bow.

I have a genuine question here as I guess I am relatively new to posting on this forum - I am mostly just on this thread and I hope this is appropriate to post here. But does Nathan always get this much hate ?! It goes far further than criticism - there's mocking, name-calling etc. Apparently to some he cannot jump, cannot skate, has nonexistent artistry and cannot even hear his own music. I will assume these posters are mostly insecure because they see Nathan as a threat to their favorites. Some of the double standards seem way too much though.
Nathan's programs this season were daring choices - both unique and non-mainstream and I wonder if this combined with his natural and unaffected style of movement is not easily appreciated by some. I think his ballet training has helped him develop a sense of effortless to his movement - he makes it looks so easy and that he's not even trying - though that is really not the case. I have no doubt that Nathan could perform the heck out of a more mainstream/obvious piece like Four Seasons with dramatic hand flourishes, facial expressions of 'pain' etc. But he is developing his own unique style and aesthetic, which is more modern and different than any skater out there.
As someone who has played piano for 15 years - I don't see how one could argue that he is deaf to the music. The Rite of Spring is a challenging piece and he has to be really precise during that step sequence. I know a few Stravinsky lovers who got excited about Nathan this year just because of that Rite of Spring section.
Apparently some are arguing he can't jump either - which is a bit ironic considering he also gets hate for supposedly only focusing on jumps. And that programs with only triples because they're so *flawless* and *artistic* should have been placed ahead of him yesterday - smh. This is a sport. Apparently being one of the only guys with a 4F (and poor Vincent in one day has gone from mostly under the radar to the subject of extreme hate) makes some people really insecure.
The complete hate towards Nathan is really gross to see. And I have yet to see anyone make a well-thought-out argument of why he has extremely poor presentation, etc.

Because they're just scared of Nathan.
It's like the last sabotage before dawn of the new era.

idk - can ladies practice be compared with men’s?
I haven’t watched any ladies this competition but will have to check out Wakaba s FS.
I thought I read she did poorly in the sp - maybe she was inspired by Nathan’s OG FS :D
I’d rather Nathan keep the tunnel vision - focus on himself, don’t be concerned with all the noise and the rest of the competition. Honestly he only has to look at his last FS for inspiration.
yeah could be:biggrin: suggest you check out Wakaba's FS, the bigtest SO of the night and a skate for ages according to inside edge.
as for compare Lady's OP to men's OP
not really, since the crazy quad era, men's consistency in practice is rare to see compare to lady's which is also indicated in competition, A clean 5 quads FS is rare than clean 7 triple FS
everything considered, I do think Nathan has the best consistency in terms of quad jumps in OP especially during OG.

if you can only land 50/50 in OP but achieved 5 quadS in comp which just means you really is mentally strong and a great competition skater.

A Nathan funny:

Nathan and Max hugging - (again Vincent is overlooked lol):

Nathan left practice early leaving Vincent to practice to his music:

Seems that we aren't the only ones who feel that Nathan can skate to any music (wish there was video of this):

I wonder why he left the practice early especially since that was the last runthru he could do before the event? Really hope there are no injuries....

Thanks for sharing! I wish Nathan finishes his program with a big smile tomorrow!

Nathan's SP CBC commentary can be watched on CBC website, if you have a Canadian IP. unfortunately I do not have one nor a vpn :sad21::cry:

If any Canadian fan can download it and share it. Super thankful.

Maybe Nathan left the practice on the dot because his basketball game alarm went off, gotta go haha

I’m quite amused observing the so called seemingly reasonable people lurking around and suddenly appears to reason why trolls exist but then wait, they couldn’t resist not to stab once on your back before they bid adieu. Pathetic, really.

I love that wholehearted hug between Max and Nathan! And yes, one of the few or possibly the only front face camera shot of Nemesis...

How long has these 3-4 20+ men been competing in the senior level, approx. 8+ and how long has Nathan been in it - 1/4 of that. To reach the level he’s at and being able to compete toe to toe with them with 1/4 of experience speaks volume, action+results over words.

Now onto watching his practice goodies, thanks for all the sharing.
