I am very impressed with the maturity, thoughtfulness, and accountability that Nathan has shown in the past month or so. Raf said in his tell-all interview that Nathan apologized to him after the Olympic FS for what had happened regarding the SP. This says a lot about Nathan's character - and honestly seems kind of rare for an 18 year old guy.
I think Nathan is truly appreciative of all that Raf has done for him - I read somewhere that in the past, Raf helped him out financially as well. Their relationship may have their ups and downs at times, but it seems that Nathan feels very loyal towards Raf.

I think this is pretty much it.

But IMO, loyalty is important and speaks to Nathan's character. but Nathan should not let loyalty limit the possible better development of his figure skating skill/career nor should the coach. Like I said, I will wait and see how Nathan's figure skating develops in the next couple of years still working with Raf, I hope Nathan make wise decision only for the sake of his figure skating career in every step(since every step is crucial, one opportunity lost is lost) during his career, since he has made it more and more clear in recent interviews that he is in it for a second olympics, and I really hope the regrets like 2018 won't happen again and he will get that OGM in 2022.

I suppose at this moment, he feels very grateful towards Raf. I did wonder if his wording of continuing to work with Raf for the 'next couple of years' was deliberate or not.
One thing that really impressed me at the press conference was when a reporter asked him if he would have done his SP differently at the Olympics. While I was thinking - do you really need to be asking this? - Nathan answered the question very thoughtfully. He said wouldn't change anything, he ended up learning more from this failure than if the SP had gone well. I think Nathan has already made incredible progress in moving on from the events of last month.
I find Nathan's maturity and sense of accountability very impressive considering his age, and he is quite articulate and always very polite in his interviews, never showing any annoyance that he is being asked the same questions about his Olympics sp for like the 1000x time. He really is one of a kind.

That part also impressed me the most. Without a second of hesitate! His resoluteness!

Overall, I like this press interview very much.

I think Raf spoke his mind, and I love that in a person. Student, family, and coach have many disagreements during the training years, but in this case, and in the Olympics, the family made “ program” decisions , Nathan reedem himself with a great long program, and RAF looked like a coach who choked...
RAF had to defend himself, and Nathan knows that. Their relationship seams to be strong. They get it!

I agree with Georgia and as fans who only see a glimpse of the complex layers to a relationship between coaches and athletes, there much more than meets the eyes or interviews. I feel Nathan isn’t one who likes to milk his words and there’s definitely no need to use the words used at the press conference.

@oatmella oh me too, loved it when he said he wouldn’t change a thing (and I can picture the reporter’s face - no headline to juice) and that earned a new respect from me, what’s done is done, just like the early NBC question of whether he reviewed his falls. He did dug deep within himself to be truthful about the emotional pressure that was mounting and as he always said, he’ll sharpen the technicals, No need to dwell on the the ifs or buts or dig yourself a hole to jump. Just look at how he’s improved the triple axel (Jackie Wong even had a poll going about it haha), that’s action over words. At times, it’s not always win win win, the Olympics lesson is a valuable one he can apply into his professional career and in life, I was surprised but so proud of his mentality.

The 4CC is in Anaheim? Oh boy time to save the date and money for the event. Now I’m going to go check out Hamilton’s post

Just have to say how over the moon happy I am for Nathan!! I woke up today about 5 min after he skated... I rushed to twitter and saw Nathan won and was thrilled! I saw his huge score and read his elements... :shocked: Then I saw that it said he and Max saved 3 spots and I thought - wait what about Vincent? Then I read how Vincent did :shocked:, then I read how Shoma, Kolyada, Jin did. :shocked: Needless to say a shocking Men's event indeed. I was gone all day so finally sat down to watch it. Wow, Nathan is amazing... so proud of him!!

Totally agree. Listening to him during these press conferences, I really think he has matured so much since the Olympics. For some reason I never thought of his Olympic experience as a failure or something to be regretted. It may have been better if he had skated well in both programs, but at the same time he wouldn't have been able to experience the extraordinary circumstance that he was able to live through. Yes, a gold medal (or any medal) would of course have been nice and a great success, but I think being able to do what he did was a success in itself and I don't know if I'd trade anything for it if I were him, from life's perspective. Just my opinion. What he said there really resonated with me.

Judged from Raf reaction during OG FS, I have a feeling that Raf blamed himself more than anything coz he felt responsible for not preparing nathan well enough for the moment,especially Nathan skated after Hanyu,when the whole stadium were roaring,hanyu was getting a unbeatable score,Pooh shower made the whole scene more chaotic and Nathan get caught in the heat of moment.As the more experienced one in this relationship, he was supposed to foresee that and prevent it from getting to Nathan.

In the end,no matter what really happened,there's no need for anyone apologize to anyone.It's just the price of being young and inexperienced.

As for his team,i feel Nathan is still not getting the best care he could find, from last year taping incident to this year blade issue and then the costume #facepalm last-minute choice.

enough about things in the past. i'm just annoyed No CBC and NBC version of WC is available.it's getting harder to watch FS videoes :disapp:
