Nathan Chen

There's not anyone too close, but within a couple hours. NY, NJ, Boston, etc.. Though figure skating season starts right when school gets in full swing. It'll be tough to do if he has to travel to train on top of going to school and competing. Though he's a smart guy I'm sure it'll work out and as long as he's happy it's all right.

I think he already accepted Yale before the WC, So he had enough disscuson with Raf and family. And he said at some interview, He would think about his studies if he difficult to find balance.
I little worried about skating, but most important thing is his happy. So whatever he choosed, i will support and trust his choice! Anyway, Congraturation Nathan:)

Yeah, they've known for awhile. And he did mention he would evaluate how things went. I see no reason to suggest he's not going to continue to skate. And with Raf as well. He wouldn't have just said he's his mentor/second father if he was going anywhere else full time.

I think Morozov spends some time in Hackensack but last I heard he was in Moscow. (Brendan Kerry moved there to train under him.)

I dunno. I guess it's possible Yale made special arrangements with him beforehand in order lure him from Harvard. Maybe they brought in a new coach to their staff?

you're right, sheetz. I actually would prefer Nathan take from someone other than Morozov, for various reasons, so that's just as well.

I think Raf's confidence and happiness in the kiss and cry at Worlds suggest the plan had already been discussed with him and met with his approval.

And belatedly, thank you sheetz and everyone for all the news, links and enthusiastic discussions.

Petrenko is at Hackensack, too.

Maybe Nathan can just use the the next season to improve his SS and spins and dial back on the quads to give his body a break. It's not a bad idea, TBH.

Is there any chance that RAF move to the east with Nathan? In the former interview that he said he would like to move to Japan with Mao Asada if he had known the issue about her mom. Maybe Raf will make a compromise for Nathan. Still the chance is soooo low.

Zero. He has other students, including Marin Honda who's moving from Japan just to train with him.

Just a thought, but did you guys realize it's April 1?
.
Nathan was in the Yale 22 GroupMe. Screenshot was posted but deleted. So, definitely not a joke.

Raf won't move. Nathan isn't his only skater and he's got new students moving to him.

I think Nathan and his team already have a concrete plan for his training to accommodate his study. We will just wait and see.

If RAF is willing to travel and spend 2 days a week with Nathan, it might be enough to at least maintain his jump level. In the meantime he can work with another coach on SS and spins etc. Nathan can also go back to full training with RAF in summer. I hope they can arrange coaches to travel and work with him, hate to see him spending time and energy on travel on top of his demanding schedule.

I doubt Raf is going to be traveling. In a post-Olympics interview, he said he really had to get back to the US to coach his other students and that Nathan is not his only student ...

He needed to go back because his job was already done after Olympic, there is no point for him staying. Travel to coach is different.

Edit. Honestly that's the only way I can see this to work. It's not uncommon for coaches to travel either.

lol - I'm sure that is possible, but unless this coach is from Vancouver or Edmonton, it's likely that the travel time would be a lot less than Raf traveling from CA to CT/NJ every week. I traveled from NYC to Montreal before, and even driving was less than 8 hrs.

Just going by gut feeling here - but I have the sense that Nathan wants to experience normal life too. And if he's going to take a bit of a break, this is the best year in an Olympic cycle to do so.
He hasn't attended regular school in so long - and he seems to be the type of person who doesn't want to live such an isolated life - just mostly skating.
Let's face it - attending any college would have to result in reduced training time - all his daily training is probably like 8 hrs a day.
Yes, I agree! I feel very happy for him too... my only problem is that I had plan to see him competing live at least once this year, and preferably GPF in Vancouver, now the plan is in jeopardy :palmf:

Plushenko video from the SOI finale. Good number of USA flags considering Nathan is the only American.

:thank: Nathan appears in the video as well and I was able to see at least 6 Nathan posters and many US flags :yahoo:

Congratulations to Nathan for continuing with his dreams :agree:

PS: I wish more optimism here, it was fun all the Turkish-style drama  but it's time to support Nathan while the fans of countries that will not see Nathan live expect more information from their EX :luv17:
