Nathan Chen

Has anyone considered that just maybe

Nathan would receive coaching other than from Raf? From a coach that is already on the east coast

Like a co-coaching situation without the Marina messiness this time. I think it is at least a possibility?

Is Patrick Chan open to move to New Haven to be Nathan’s local coach? It would propel him directly to a tier one coach if all works out in Beijing.

The reason why I'm not nervous yet is because of his 2016-2017 season. He's been away from RAF all season and his FS at TdF was a disaster. He go back together with Raf for about a week and was much improved by NHK. Then two weeks later, GPF 2016 and history was made.

Nathan is very disciplined skater who trains regularly. Since he will be away from his family, his rink and coach, I think training will become therapeutic. Because it's familiar and he's introverted, being alone on the ice will help him and make him more focused.

No, it's when starts to party, gets lots of non skating friends or he gets the new girlfriend is when I'll worry. That may make him lose focus.

Nathan is in a touch situation. better change coach then. Be Bold Nathan. Give it a try, now is the best time, maybe you can survive without Daddy Raf:biggrin:
He will never do that. The kid has brains..lot’ of them. He flew for just three days to see a Raf last week. That’s how it’s going to work. By phone and exchanged visits.

I just don’t know how realistic it is that Nathan will be paying $10000 regularly for a few days of coaching from Raf.

It's a possibility since Raf is open to working with other coaches from what he's said. Honestly though, Raf has incentive to try to keep Nathan happy as well. He doesn't really want the guy he trained to world champion to leave him either.

Maybe I'm not understanding how it works, but I thought elite coaches typically work with multiple skaters during the same session. So if Raf was away he'd be losing income from those other skaters.

But he gets paid for training hours from Nathan. Competition is different, the skater perhaps only pays a fixed fee so the coach would lose some income. Idk but. Know someone here with a beautiful avatar knows:biggrin:

This is why he needs a good local coach to make sure he doesn't slack off.

He can party this year, and maybe some the next but by 2020 he's gotta drop it.

I can't really imagine him partying up a storm and not training. Yale isn't easy and he'll be super busy and has always worked hard throughout his life. And partying in school gets old after the first couple times (or else I'm just a boring person).

This thread moves so fast. Always something going on.

He need a strong coach that won't be intimidated by his status. There aren't a lot of coaches that trained world champs in the US. And not many that can even teach quads. And hardly at Nathan's quality. I'd be happy with an ice dance coach to help him with his SS and someone to help him focus on his spins and transistions.

The obvious solution is Patrick Chan. LOL

you replied me the exact same content at post #6618 why the repeat?

I would not worry Nathan's quad technique as much as say 1 year ago, according to Raf, Nathan mastered most of his quad 100% now.
So maybe, Nathan now will have some level of jump confidence to leave Raf for some time.
As for other things SS, components etc, a good ice dance coach (with some knowlege of single's discipline )will do, but transitions into and out of jump are also an inseparable part of jump technique itself. I am not sure about that, actually I am not so sure about Raf's ability to teach that as well.
