Nathan Chen

just wonder what is the amount of "Top Billing" that Nathan will earn per night if it is just one program?

It seems some Japanese fans find this bittersweet because they’re happy about Nathan is headlining The Ice but Mao is not gonna be there (she’s usually the headliner) and they really wanted them to interact since the Olympics lol. Is this correct? That’s what I’m getting out of some translations on twitter. I saw someone say contact Raf to help lol

Congrats to Nathan tho, idk how much of a presence he has in Japan or what his fanbase is like but top billing is nice either way.

New ice show http://fs-theice.com/

So his schedule so far

Heroes & Future - June 10
Dreams on Ice July 6, 7, 8
Sun Valley July 21
The Ice July 28-29, August 4-5

Busy July

he was trending in Japan on Twitter for awhile too :)

Don’t forget champs camp. I think it’s the third week of August. .
I assume he’ll get his choreography done in June and that small window of a week in July.

My boy isn’t going to rest at all this summer. :(

😍

So many shows for Nathan! - busy, busy 🐝

this video of Nathan - amazing edit - to my favorite part of the music from the end of Bluebird PDD from Sleeping Beauty - all the jumps!

https://twitter.com/yamazaki21/status/991283098800214017?s=21

this video is talking about Nathan's unqiue seat belt arm air position. it seems is a arm position suggested by Mishi. Among famous skaters (including Russian skaters) that I have some impression, Nathan seems is the only one who is using this arm air position.

I am also wondering, with this schedule, is it even possible for Nathan to show his new programs in a summer event to test them on New Juding Rules.

Really hope all these Japanese shows pays true "top billing"

It explains why Russian commentary keep saying that he’s like Mishin. Well it if works for Nathan, he should keep doing it.

Why Mao Asada is not in The Ice anymore?

Why Mao Asada is not in The Ice anymore?

She has another Ice Show she’s headlining this year. I think people thought The Ice was not happening this year because of that but instead they got this cast with Nathan replacing Mao as the main

I didn’t know Nathan was the only famous skater using this arm position.

Whoa on the sped up Bluebird music though - but very fitting for Nathan’s hummingbird-fast rotation

He’s off for about three weeks between June and July. The. He has another two week window in July. Those are his windows to get his choreography. It only takes a week at most. Shae did his SP in a few days.

I guess while he’s in Japan, he’ll have to find some very private ice to train his program. Because let’s be real, if Nathan practice his programs in Japan, the press will be all over it.

well, I am not an expert fan, i did not know all the skaters out there competing, just those skaters that I have watched, I did not recall anyone who is using Nathan's arm position.

I was thinking about that, between The Ice two shows, Maybe Nathan will not fly back to US instead training in Japan. IDK.

Part of the benefit of Nathan training at Yale is that he probably won’t have to deal with any Japanese/Korean news outlets that will want to snoop around Team Raf’s training ground because of his new students.

Have you guys seen the official ISU proposals for next season? What do you guys think, anything concern you or excite you for Nathan if any of these rules are to go through?

https://www.isu.org/communications/17037-isu-communication-2156/file

Summary:

Backloading bonus only allowed for max 4 jumps in LP, 1-2 jumps in SP (Netherlands & Japan)

- Bonus for skaters attempting all 6 types of triple/quad jump (Japan)

- Allow men to wear tights

- Separate judging panel for GOE and PCS (quite a few countries) - reason given: there is a larger scale of value now, so judges need to take time to evaluate correctly

- No compulsory deduction for falls, falls are interruption and should be reflected in PCS

- Elimination of the compulsory steps before solo jumps in SP (tech committee) - reason given: already counted in GOE so it's "controversial" to count steps as a requirement

- No repetition of any type of quad jump (tech comm) - reason given: "variety" & "giving credit to skaters that can perform all types of quad jumps"

There's also another proposal to increase the value of components by raising the factors for the PCS from 1 for SP and 2 for FS to 1.2 and 2.4 respectively, in order to have a better balance between TES and PCS.

I get that with all these changes (11 step GOE, lower BV for quads, removing one jumping pass...) or proposed changes (factor for PCS, falls reflected in PCS...) they're supposedly trying to increase the quality of execution on elements and the value of "artistry", but since GOE and PCS are both highly subjective, putting even more of an emphasis on this subjective side of judging seems pretty troublesome to me.

So it's difficult to say how much this will impact any given skater or Nathan for that matter, and encourage them to change their strategy, what with reputation judging etc..

Also, a lot people on these boards discussing the rule changes/proposals are ridiculously spiteful when it comes to Nathan, if I may say so... :disapp:
In case you didn't know, the proposal to remove compulsory steps before the solo jump in the SP is the US scheming to protect their precious champion, because as we all know, this is one of Nathan's biggest weaknesses... talk about far-fetched... :rolleye:

Never mind that Nathan never actually suffered any GOE reduction on his "steps lacking" solo jump this season (except for deserved negative GOE due to bad landings) so he's been getting by just fine and it doesn't exactly look like a pressing matter to me...

Also, even if steps weren't compulsory anymore, doing them would still give the skater an advantage in terms of GOE (more important than ever with the new range) and even PCS, which hopefully is enough of an incentive for Nathan to work on this *hopes*.

ETA: What if Nathan keeps one or even both of his programs and repeats them next season? How high are the chances for that?
I personally wouldn't mind seeing Nemesis another season, preferably in a somewhat vamped up reincarnation. Which is not to say that I wouldn't prefer something completely new, but I love Nemesis so much, that I can't imagine anything topping that.
But his FS has to go...

According to Sun Valley Resort

Meet and greet is only available with a hotel package

Lowest priced room is $499 a night

Nathan is frugal and private

Training in Japan between shows, ice time, hotels, etc. if it is not privided by the show organizer, may be a little too expensive for frugal Nathan:biggrin:

and training in Yale maybe perfect for private Nathan.
