Nathan Chen

I think I shared this before but I remember reading a fans post about how they saw Nathan at practice or warm up or something and he was communicating with his mom in mandarin the entire time, like full convos so it’s possible he can speak more at home or with people he’s comfortable with than what he lets on publicly idk

@hhh is our resident Q&A guru so we should have her ask him if he’s more fluent than he lets on but is just too shy next time she meets him, she seems to get good info outta him 😂

Today’s show is in Spokane, WA

same arena where Nathan won his first national championship 8 years ago 😍

from 10 year old Nathan 😊

“When I was ten days old my oldest brother won his first National Champion in Chess. Many people said I would be a very good Chess player. They would say “He knows how to play chess in his mom’s tummy” but now I’m ten years old and I’m a National Champion in skating.”

So cute and the champion genes...

I went on to the next article, Nathan's impression of china? Sounds like he had really good memories from his trip to Hangzhou.

"The day of the last show was very special for me because it was on the day of my birthday. That morning our whole cast went to Hang Zhou’s famous lake, West Lake. It was a little bit cloudy but the temperature was nice. The lake was beautiful and in it were a lot of lily pads and it’s flowers. There were lots of willow trees surrounding the lake. We saw many traditional Chinese architectural structures. The scene felt completely different to what I am used to but it was amazing. Some people played ancient Chinese flutes and the music sounded beautiful. Then we had a boat ride on the lake where we took lots of pictures. Then I went onto the dock and saw water sloshing everywhere. It was really fun and was a great experience for me."

from Seating in UBC Thunderbird Arena (GPF 2018) thread - 'A new block of all event tickets were released for the 2018 GPF in Vancouver. These tickets are in the west bleachers. Has anyone attended a FS event in similar seats? I'm just wondering about what the view will be like. It's also on the opposite side of the arena from K&C which isn't great.'

response: 'I don't know where the west bleachers are. But I've been to at least one FS competition every year since 2013, and I'm happy to share my opinion.

My favorite seats are in what's sometimes referred to as the "Lutz corner." Each time my seats have been there, it's been the opposite end from the K&C. I can always see the skaters' K&C reactions by viewing the big ceiling screen at center rink. Many of the skaters who jump counterclockwise (thus, most) jump their lutz in that corner, and it's thrilling! Also, it's been a great place to see a lot of the other jumps from. Most of the skaters plan their jumps to happen at both ends of the rink, or the middle too. This last year, Nathan Chen put his quad lutz in one end during the SP, and in the other end during his FS. Very considerate, I thought. :)'

If anyone is interested in attending

aww that gif is so adorable

Nathan was even wearing Nike sweatpants back then :)

I think the black waffle mesh is actually one of Nathan's best costumes for the show. Well he looks great in all of them - but he looks really amazing in the sheer back top
