Nathan Chen

@oatmella
If Nathan wanna do Jookin on ICE:p, Sam might be the one to realize it.

Hi yyyskate!

haha, maybe! I wonder if Sam choreographed a hip hop program for Nathan ?

Also wondering if Nathan is/was (not sure if he's still there) working on SS at Centre Gadbois.

Seems a bit ... challenging if Nathan has to go all the way to Japan to spend time with Raf before SA.

It looks like JO is only a one day event - so I could see how Nathan would think he can just fit it in - not accounting for jet lag and all that.

I do think Nathan loves going to Japan - but wondering how much prize $$ is involved?

Nathan's 'update' looks like it was filmed not super recently

'This summer has been crazy ...' before it even started :)

He also said that Yale is 'super open to collaboration' ... so maybe JO is ok with them?

And according to hhh's report it sounds like Nathan fully intends to be on the cast of SOI next spring, so it does appear that Yale is more than willing to meet Nathan halfway to accommodate his schedule.

For one thing, Yale allows Nathan to take two years off before Beijing 2022. Isn't that an exception?

I'm not really sure about Nathan taking two years off from Yale - would he possibly be completing his degree at another school? But seems very possible that Yale would make an exception here as well - an example of 'super open to collaboration' :)

In the current day skating world, any money is acceptable, because paid events are hard to come by and skaters have to pay the on and off ice bills somehow.

So for some here, 3rd place prize money for a competition may not seem like alot, but to skaters it will help them.

This is what Sarah Hughes did per Phil Hersh's article in April. She did have to reapply after took 2 separate leave from Yale, which involving taking summer courses and submitting transcripts. She took her first leave for her SOI tour. The 2nd leave was only a semester, not sure about the first leave. I am not sure that friend from Edge needs also to reapply for her degree.

After her freshman year at Yale, Hughes took what would be her first leave of absence to capitalize on some of the financial opportunities that come with being an Olympic champion. That included spending a touring season with Stars on Ice.

After contracting mononucleosis, she took another leave in the winter/spring semester of 2006. That became a happy coincidence because it allowed her to go to the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy to watch Emily compete as the 11th-hour replacement for injured Michelle Kwan.
“I don’t recommend leaving two separate times,” Sarah said. “I had to reapply and take summer school courses and submit a transcript from them as part of the reapplication.”

Maybe Yale is more 'super open to collaboration' than in the past :).

Even if Yale is quite flexible with him - it would probably not be possible to attend all events and competitions. Nathan sounded not sure if he will be able to compete at 4CC.

I believe it is part of the collaboration.

And this what a poster said in the FSU Nathan Yale thread. He would have more rights as a matriculation student

"even if I knew it was incompatible with competing, I would enroll and attend classes for at least literally one day before withdrawing. The reason is that one typically has more rights as a matriculating student that withdraws than as an admit that does not matriculate in terms of enrollment and readmission. It is also a much better situation than deferred enrollment, which is typically more limited"

He can always transfer to one of his two safety NoCal schools if taking 2 years off is not working out with Yale.

Hopefully it will work out with Yale! Nathan seems to love the school so much already.

I'm kinda curious how Nathan decided on Sam Chouinard for choreography - not that I'm questioning it. Maybe he liked V/M's Moulin Rouge program - or H/D's Make Me Feel program from SOI? Maybe Nathan wanted a hip hop program :)

Or maybe Shae Lynn sent Nathan to him for some dance training?

Did Junhwan work with Sam on this ex program?

He's friends with people like Zach and Madi who he toured with, skater talk about choreographers and things like that, so it's not that hard to imagine how this happened. ;)
