Guess that’s why they were more complimentary of Nathan in their last video. Last season they were a bit dismissive, I think he barely got a mention in their review of Worlds.

I think it depends on what Raf chose to say in the show. Obviously he answered many questions people want to hear but after watching the entire interview all I remember is his new “train the trainers” idea.
I mean if he can use the show to express and spread some new ideas he has, why not.

If that's your takeaway message from the entire interview, then Raf was indeed a good pitchman. He was clever to use TSL for his purposes.

At least to me, I didn’t find anything else new.
I'm only agreeing with your take on why Raf would agree to appear on TSL.
... maybe I'm also trying to figure out whether there's a reason to give TSL an hour of my time. :/
It's just the format--so time consuming. I'd be more willing to read a written transcript, which wouldn't run an hour of my time.

TBH, even though I am always a loyal supporter of Nathan, I was a little disappointed by his competitive skates last season. His two programs were so awesome, but partway through the season, his worries on the technical side swallowed up all of his spark while skating. He regained a lot of that spark while skating in shows this year, and I'm super excited about his programs and the way he looks at the moment. So while TSL can be overly harsh, there is a legitimate reason why they are more excited about him this year.

I actually agree with you and I was just trying to justify why he agreed to do the interview. I said I didn’t find anything new only based on how how much I have watched and read his other interviews and how closely I have followed Nathan in the last 6 months. For example, I remember he complimented Michelle kwan’s work ethic in another interview that she had always showed up early and had her warm up routine completed before lessons.
Raf talks about Nathan at a few points but the bulk of it starts at 33:00.
I actually found it interesting to hear of Raf's Irvine plans and how his skaters try to help coach each other. Raf also said he loves the dynamic between Nathan, Adam, and Brezina. Somehow it all makes me feel a bit more at ease with Nathan at Yale, although we now know he plans to supplement his training with regular visits to Montreal.

It's a decent interview, I think Raf's approach to things is pretty interesting. The main Nathan parts:
- Raf said that Nathan wants to fly back and forth and that Raf himself may fly there, especially if he is on his way to Europe. He said that Nathan's jumps are secure at the moment but if he starts to run into trouble, he will make "some other decisions." Doesn't think he'll work with any other coaches while he's at Yale because it "would be hard for him to work with someone else."
- Talked about how much he loves Nathan's new programs and he kind of went off on a tangent about the evolution of Nathan's style and programs.
- Talked about how Nathan helps with other people's jumps, particularly Michal's.
- Talked about how professional Nathan is and how he reminds Raf of Michelle because he does his job with no problems and there's nothing to worry about there in terms of his work ethic.
- Says Nathan's been listening a lot better in practices after the issues of last year and that he can tell Nathan feels a lot better after winning Worlds.
- Dave asked if Nathan will send him videos while he's at Yale and he said yeah he will but that he can't exactly coach him during the day that way because of his work hours.
- Also talked about when Kolyada was there and he said it was fun to watch him and Nathan jump/skate together and that he could have sold tickets.
- Asked about Nathan's jump plans with the new system and Raf said that before Nathan leaves, he will go over with him what the programs should look like (I assume he means a basic layout) but then he started complaining about how they had no time to adjust to the rules since they were just decided in May so it seems like he's unsure of what Nathan will ultimately do layout wise.

I loved that part where he talks about Nathan's evolution from an 11 yo to where he is today. You can definitely see elements from Nathan's older programs being brought back for this season.
Thank you, everyone's who's given time points and highlights and thoughts on this TSL interview with Raf.Yes, I enjoyed his philosophy on letting kids try lots of different programs regardless of style. He also seemed to be making a clear distinction between the long-term work involved with building a champion's career like Nathan and taking on a student who wants to see results in months.

Yes, I liked listening to that too! I know some people have their issues with Raf and for good reason, but listening to this interview - you can tell he really loves and respects Nathan. :yes:

That part is so cute and made me very curious about what we all have missed. Raf was radiant when he was talking about Kolyada’s visit and said he missed Ashely and Adam. I can feel the love among team Raf.
