Nathan Chen

Love love love this SP from Nathan. So much color and life and charisma. Such wonderful, genuine expression throughout - it honestly felt like a performance instead of a competition. He completely owned the ice. If only he would ALWAYS skate with his heart like this. Probably in the extreme minority here, but I think I love this SP even more than Nemesis.

YES! Same here! It felt like a gala performance to me but with a quad and triples!!

SO FREAKING HAPPY FOR HIM cause he was smiling non-stop through the program! The crowd was screaming though it usually doesn't happen at competitions! people were literally shocked when they saw the opening! Cause it's so unusual and is something completely new for figure skating. Nathan is developing his own style, there's no man who performs like him.

Also HIS 3A, his nemesis - it was so smooth! The landing like a knife through butter! A French judge even gave him +5 GOE and many judges gave him +4! I'm so happy ahdsgahdg

If there are new people in this thread, you don't know what troubles did Nathan have with his 3 axel. That's why I'm so happy he's improving it.

I love the program because it's so different than what every other man is doing, although I think I like the show version he did at The Ice a wee bit better. Michael Weiss said something to the effect that it was like ice dancing with jumps. On the CBC broadcast PJ Kwong mentioned that Shae recently visited Nathan at Yale.

But Nathan often does quads and triples in gala performances. LOL

The great thing was that the one he did in the practice run thru was just as good (maybe even better?) so it wasn't a fluke.

So happy about his performance last night! Still that lovely charming boy I instantly fell for 8 months ago. :luv17: Good luck with the free Nathan!

I am also happy that he resisted the temptation of turning 3lz to a quad in the end.;)

And he skates so fast, so in synch with the energy of the music.

Yay Nathan! What a performance and a great start to the season/competition!

He was so committed to the choreo and the music - and his expressions were so adorable! He skated convincingly with a feeling of spontaneity and being off-kilter.

Seems that the new and significant life experience of attending college has made him appreciate even more the opportunity to perform and compete. He looked so happy last night - even if things didn’t go perfectly. Was kinda expecting him to go for a 4lz at the end though lol. 3A was really good!

Proud of him! And good luck for the FS today

Sheets, is there a place to watch the CBC broadcast and the one with Michael Weiss?

His SP is a delight, and well worth the wait (I chose not to watch it until now!). I love the unconventional intro, the expressions, how lively and delighted he was on the ice, that 3A as smooth as buttah... personally I like his outfit too!! I hope he can keep it up for today

Lol @ Raf:
"At least you had some fun"
He must have been so frustrated with that botched 4F, that they had just been working on earlier in practice.

That 3A though, wow... I don't think I've ever seen such a good one from Nathan, first time I don't cringe watching him do one :luv17:
Great landing and for him that was relatively much distance and less telegraphing/hesitation going into it... can we please keep it that way forever from now on, pretty please? ;)

But I am sulking that he left out one of my favourite transitions before the second jumping pass :disapp:, that BO-rocker-pretending-he-might-be-loosing-his-balance-into-FO-mohawk. :(

That was so cute. And his MJ program was ‘dope’!

aww - his memories of Peter and the Wolf.
