Commented that the program was really fantastic, exceptional, more than exceptional - and also he was very strong psychologically.

Also described him as 'jeune américain étudiant à Yale' - young American student at Yale.

I learned that the loop jump in French is called 'le boucle':)

I combined those comments:) - she actually said it was exceptional, more than exceptional - we’ve never seen anything like this.

Flashback article from IFS. He was a budding choreographer even back then!

Chen returned to Hangzhou in August to perform in two exhibitions at Skate Asia. “Everyone was so excited that he was coming back. He was by far the most spectacular star at the Wiwa shows,” said World Ice Arena director Ted Wilson. “He is utterly amazing and, frankly, in all my years in this business I’ve never seen anything like him. He is so gifted that he was choreographing Richard Dwyer for their duet, ‘Singing in the Rain.’”

Such a prodigy! He seems to have always been able to learn choreography very quickly and have a good memory for it - even as a 4 year old.

From 2003 Raf interview: http://www.mountain-news.com/sports/article_a8ab58d1-1946-5422-a4bd-d763f9e4eec6.html

"I look for young skaters that are able to set goals and consistently move forward with a plan to achieve those goals," Arutunian says.

"Over a period of time, I look for the students who have a competitive spirit and strive to be the best. If they are driven to be the best, they will begin to win in their competitions."

Arutunian says it is important skaters begin at an early age. Young skaters develop strong muscle memory and good skating discipline when they begin skating at 4 or 5 years of age.

"I have already taken students to national and world championships; that was my first goal and I have already achieved that goal. Now, I would like to focus on the development of a few quality American skaters. I know that I have the experience and dedication to develop one or two young skaters to this highest level of world champion. I will be fulfilled as a coach if I can accomplish this goal, here in Lake Arrowhead!"

Another flashback: https://boysballet.wordpress.com/2011/03/10/11-year-old-utah-boy-skating-to-success/

You may be wondering, what makes this little man so incredible? His coach and mom say it is his work ethic and concentration.

Coach Genia said, “He’s an extremely talented kid – physically, mentally, and emotionally. He has no attitude problems and an extreme work ethic.”

Nathan’s mom Hetty said, “Lots of his teachers and coaches were very surprised. Since he was very young he can stay focused for a very long time.”

Nathan found skating by chance. He wanted to play hockey like his big brothers, but his Mom had a different plan. Hetty said, “When he started – he wanted to play hockey and I said you have to know how to skate then you can play hockey.”

They stumbled upon a talent so rare, so inspiring – all inside his little body. Coach Genia said, “He has all of the tricks people do when they are 20.”

Back to the Hockey: The fact he can do both sports is pretty unreal. Each sport’s skate is built very different; this makes it nearly impossible for somebody to do both. But not Nathan, for him it’s no big deal. Nathan said, “You just the balance you just have to keep a good balance when you skate.”

He will have to use his picking up choreo quickly skills today. Hope Vincent feels better soon!
