Chen "moved" by Korean response
Aside from Kim, reigning double world champion Nathan Chen was the biggest name in attendance with Javier Fernandez and PyeongChang silver medallist Shoma Uno also taking part.

Chen landed a quad in his dynamic opening skate 'Nemesis' with the American clearly enjoying himself in his time off following his first year exams at Yale University.

The crowd appeared to take as much pleasure as he did in the performance with Chen appreciating the support he received from the crowd in Instagram.

His latest IG post got a like from Donovan. He must be very happy about it.

Gotta say Nathan’s interpretation is the best here...yes, even better than P/C. He’s dancing like this is *his* show (in a good way ofc) ;) Love his ability to improvise and imbue all these moves with so much intensity and layers. It really cannot be taught.

I can totally see this song and music video become the next big inspiration for fs/ice dance programs.

I feel Nathan has really blossomed artistically this year. It was on display at SOI in the 90's number (where I thought he was the standout) and here as well. Last year at the shows we saw his creativity but it was still fairly introverted. This year he's just brimming with confidence. Maybe it's a combination of being 2X World Champion and a Yale man.

In the new TSL, Dave talks about how Sandra Bezic feels about Nathan https://youtu.be/TbfIGqZrWZk?t=19m32s.

Spoiler: She's fallen for him. :luv17:

Did Dave Lease interview Sandra or something? He sounds like they had a conversation? Or was that just his own observation about her?

I absolutely agree. I think only Ashley and Charlie came close to his dancing in that 90's number. And I was surprised to see him stand out like that at ATS, too.
And what's so nice about it, it doesn't feel cheesy or rehearsed and put on, at all. It seems so genuine and natural, which I rarely get from skaters.

Haven’t watched TSL yet to hear Sandra’s comments, will have to do that soon.

Nathan has grown/matured quite a lot since last year, it’s evident in his skating, speaking, everything.

Dave called ATS “the show event/pageant of the season.” And “this has always been the A-list skating show of all shows.”

They thought the lights in the audience were beautiful.

Dave: “She has really fallen for Nathan Chen and I thought, oh crap.” lol

They want him to work with a collaboration of Sandra and Lori.

Dave is ready for “the complete moment” from Nathan, he thought Mao’s Last Dancer was getting to what he’s capable of doing. He thought last year’s program was good, but not as challenging and he could have pushed it further (but acknowledge that he was at school). “But I think if he really commits, he could become a virtuoso.”

Dave is getting bored of his baggy untucked shirt, slouched over “schtick” and thinks he “can really bring it”.

“Sandra says that he really comes alive in front of an audience in these shows” and he has grown every year performing in shows.

Dave: All the experience in front of an audience at the shows adds up, and he has gotten to work with great choreographers (Sandra, David Wilson, etc.), Jonathan: “When you’re skating alongside Gabby and Guillaume, inevitably you rise to the challenge.”

They mention that Raf didn’t win Coach of the Year from PSA, Dave thinks he deserved to win.

Kind of a side comment. Interesting that Dave commented on how Shae has primarily focused on “fun” programs and hasn’t really done any “soulful” programs. I can see where he’s coming from and probably would’ve agreed with him if I hadn’t seen this program she choreographed for herself which she performed at one of the Japanese shows where they paid tribute to Denis Ten https://youtu.be/jj-4GxFfvCs It’s one of the most emotionally intense programs I have seen. I know the program was created for a very extraordinary purpose, but it nevertheless showcases her ability to combine edgy and soul. I’m not sure if Nathan is ready for it, but I’d love for her to do something similar in style for him.

Shae-Lynn is certainly more versatile and capable of more than a “fun” SP - but seems that quite a lot of skaters are going to her for a more fun or edgy SP recently - including Marin, Rika, Vincent. Kaori and Shoma are getting SP from her - don’t know what kind of programs yet, but she did Shoma’s EDM ex program.

Is anyone else not that super excited he’s getting another FS from MFD :p (unless he changed his mind). Though I realize there can be benefits for him training at Gadbois, seems that he really isn’t able to spend *that* much time there.
