Nathan Chen

I am so sad for Nathan as well as for all the skaters who poured so much work into this. I mean, some even got injured in the process and, in hindsight, it'd been all for nothing. I guess I'm not really understanding why it wasn't possible to still hold the GPF in a strict bubble with safety measures in place/restrictions on media and team members skaters are able to bring/no live audiences/etc.

I mean...I don't want to be looking too far ahead but are we sure an Olympics in Beijing is going to be happening?

This may not be a bad thing as long as the rest of the season goes off well. He can now head into the Olympics with somewhat less of the spotlight on him than if he had won again. And who knows? This cancellation may actually increase the likelihood of his attending Worlds since he may feel less worn out.

I still believe China will enforce whatever draconian measures necessary to ensure the Olympics goes on as planned.

It'd be awesome if he would attend Worlds regardless of the Olympic's outcome. It just makes me sad thinking it could be his last season and that he doesn't have very many competitions left. I would hate to see his season end without these opportunities...or a chance at an Olympic gold. At the same time, I hope China is putting a proper plan in place to keep the athletes safe. I don't even care if it's not a fancy Olympics. They can use that money they were going to use for optics for proper, safety measures. Last I heard, they were going to allow spectators from within the country. Have they called that off? For the safety of these athletes and everyone, I would have no problem with them doing that.

2022 SOI dates have been announced!

Nathan gave a brief statement regarding the GPF cancellation.
“I am disappointed about the cancellation of the Grand Prix final in Japan. However, I know that everyone’s health is most important,” three-time world champion and Olympic favorite Nathan Chen wrote in a text message to The Associated Press.

I know these videos are awfully late (better late than never!), but I do have vids of Nathan from CBC television's broadcast of the 2021 Skate Canada International with Kurt Browing as the commentator. (Please note that this is the only GP event which CBC aired this season.)

Thank you so much for sharing! It's greatly appreciated!
I hadn't seen their commentating for the SP yet and was kind of wondering about it.

The following vids are less significant, but Kurt does talk about Nathan in both clips.

You're very welcome, I'm glad to be of help. :)

New article from the Fanzone. Once again attributed his problems at SA mostly to poor preparation.
"In the short program, I fell once, and tried to put a flip-toe in the second half, and I wasn't really ready for that, so that was difficult," he said. "(In the) free program, just trying content that I wasn't really ready for. So just bad decisional planning, and just content that I wasn't really ready for. I think that's basically it. Early in the season, trying ambitious programs doesn't always turn out well, so take a step back and try to build up from here."

Just trying to get the facts straight but why did the article say that Nathan fell several times at skate America? I mean, there were multiple errors in his programs but wasn't it just one fall?

Chen uncharacteristically fell several times and says that, while early-season nerves could've been a factor, it mostly came down to poor planning.

More praise from the Russian skating community, this time from ice dancer Kirill Aleshin.
Kirill Aleshin: I like watching men’s singles skating. To be honest, I am a fan of #NathanChen’s programs. He is just unbelievable. The most memorable program? I like them all, can’t choose one. Really cool. Every program is a masterpiece

Was anyone else surprised at how light Nathan is? Or maybe it says something about my own weight that I think 135 is really light.

Why is Nathan's arm glowing in one of the gifs?
