“There [are] so many different factors and variables that [played] a pretty substantial role in this decision,” said Chen. “It's hard…I definitely have a lot of empathy for her and everything that she's been through. I know, it's been extraordinarily tough on her. But bottom line, we need to have a clean sport.”

In the post-Games survey, 40 percent of Americans indicated they have heard of Chen, up from 27 percent prior to the Games. The 48 percent increase put his awareness on par with that of snowboarder Chloe Kim. In an eerie way, the somber nature of that program could become a very fitting piece considering the war in Ukraine... except for the mashup at the end of it.
