I was so looking forward to seeing him compete again - possibly Mozart, so am very disappointed. However, his health comes first. Even during Olympics, I was wondering about his injury, though he seemed fine (or hid it well) then. I hope he rests and recovers, and has a great time on tour!

I think they gave him a rest after Skate Canada - he looked less well-trained than usual at Nationals. I do hope he addresses these nagging injuries during his upcoming break from skating (hoping it's just a break because I'm also wishing he revisits the Mozart FS).

Being exhausted after the OG does not help training if there are nagging injuries that keep you from maximizing that training. I wish him well and hope he can bathe in the glow of his enormous success on tour with his fellow skaters and friends before he goes back to Yale.
This quote from The Sporting News gives me a tiny bit of hope that he’ll compete again at some point. Of course, it could be that he was just expressing a hypothetical.

I just heard about the news and I died.
Was really looking forward to seeing him compete for a 4th world title. I can't imagine him withdrawing, especially just a week out from the competition, unless his injury has become worse. Did he put that 4Lo back into the program and did practicing it cause his injury to get worse? I know he kept talking about how he chose Rocketman for the Olympics because he wanted to do a fun program but it makes me kind of wonder if a part of that decision had something to do with his hip injury and the loop jump. I'm depressed by the news because I wasn't ready for the Olympics to be his last competition but I just really hope he's okay and that he's able to fully heal before his SOI tour starts.

I'm personally not getting retirement vibes from Nathan the way I did from Patrick and Javi so I wouldn't be surprised if he were to continue in some respect, health notwithstanding. Regardless I have the feeling he would have gritted his teeth and managed his way thru Worlds if he weren't committed to the long, arduous SOI tours in Japan and the US.

I'm disappointed that Nathan won't be at Worlds, but I'm glad he made the decision to put his health and well-being first.
All 3 SOI Tokyo shows will be broadcast live on Japanese TV. One can expect fans to upload video soon afterwards.
