I know. I hate it too. I make two types of charity contributions: I give to my local National Public Radio Station (hey, I listen to them for more than an hour each day - I owe them!), and I make contributions through my synagogue. The latter is good because they always collect for specific projects; and they can always account exactly for how they have spent the money, and how much of it (usually almost all) goes exactly for the cause they have been collecting for.

Well, that's kind of true. If you tell them "please do not call me again" they have to stop!
