Hello! I'm in need of new skates and I don't really know where I should look. Right now I have risport etoiles and theyve been good as I bought them second hand without a clue on whether theyd be good for me. Ive had mine for around 9 months but only regularly using for around 4 and now theyre breaking down especially at the ankle so I think its time to upgrade (they were second hand so i dont really know how long the previous owner had them). In skate UK im in level 6, working on turns, crossovers and edges if that helps and I plan on continuing so I'm not sure what kind of ability boot I should look for. The risports I have now fit pretty well but I have found I myself buying a size up (I am a size three in regular shoes, but I bought a size 4) which actually helped cause I worried theyd be too narrow. Anyway I wonder if anyone can help me figure out what kind of skates I would need, any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Where in the UK are you, and are you able to travel to one of the few really good skate shops there? You really need to have a professional fitter see and measure your feet to know which brand would fit them correctly. Your skate boots have to fit more snugly than your street shoes so your feet can't shift in them, so they should usually be a size smaller. The fact that you bought boots a size larger than your street shoes is a red flag that Risports are not the right brand for you. And used skates are not a good idea, as you've already discovered, unless perhaps they were worn once and returned to the shop, who are reselling them and can mould them to your feet and move the blades if necessary.

Can you give us your location, and describe the shape of your feet (arch height, toe slant, etc) and your age, height and weight, so we can assess the various brands and models available for you? A beginner adult needs boots stiffer than a beginner child's, for instance, for safety reasons to prevent falls and injury. Good luck!
