Yes we do! I think its really refreshing that his journal entries are actual journal entries instead of PR media releases dressed up like journal entries (sasha).

I'm sure a lot of people, perhaps including other skaters, would totally agree with you MM (especially the skaters who have had to make adjustments or unexpected appearences and didn't 'complain'). However, I like his rant because a) it is unusual, and b) it gives insights that the standard line "i'm working hard' does not. For example, we could ask: so what's up with TT the great, didn't she know her choreo wasn't getting him enough points? or we could ask, wasn't weir listening to TT? or we could ask...hmmmm, so how do this collaboration on programs unfold...and when do ALL on the team really discover it's 'base' value? And i'm sure there are a lot more interesting questions...oh, like, so what IS weir's financial situation, and was planning Japan and Campbells ultimately a financial net loss instead of the hoped for net gain? How do teams plan these things out, and what mistakes to they make? etc.

And that is what sucks about the COP. It has taken a beautiful, artistic sport and turned the participants into point grabbing robots with souless programs. Thankyou Johnny for putting it into words. Give me Kwan's EOE exhibition or Rach 1998 any day over Bielmanmania.

Well, It's nice to see Johnny getting fired up about what happed to him.

I agree completely with Johnny's assessment of the COP! I applaud his honesty; and I hope he isn't made to "pay" for his forthrightness.
If the reigning National Champion has trouble interpreting and complying with the requirements of the new system, I wonder about its' worth.
I don't want skating to degenerate into a series of robotic, formulaic programs, either!

I just hope he can turn this season around, which isn't going to happen without a change in attitude. He is my favorite US skater today, and I really want him up to his full potential for Torino. I am going to see him skate this weekend at the Jimmy Fund skate. For GP, Weir is doing Canada and Russia, so he should have a bit of breathing time there. I wonder if he'll just fly out to Russia early to work with TT on bridging her choreography with the new requirements.

It's not that Tarasova doesn't know the code -- she does -- but there isn't an official list of "difficult" (just a few examples.) The issue with new positions is that they don't have a level until the callers/officials see them and determine if they are "difficult." She has to use her experience of difficult, and if it's not recognized by callers, the people for whom she choreographs are SOL. The only way to guarantee points is to perform moves that have already been leveled, and to "look like everyone else."

I would love to see that spin. I fell in love with Johnny's skating this year at COI. I hope he gets it pulled together and kicks butt this year.
Just for the record, one of my spins was a back sit spin, completely extended over my leg, holding my turned out foot with both arms, and completely turning my body towards the inside and pulling body through my arms. Not difficult my @ss.
I would love to see that spin. I fell in love with Johnny's skating this year at COI. I hope he gets it pulled together and kicks butt this year.

Life doesn't always pan out as initially planned, and in JW's case the judges and the system got into him. I am still scratching my head as to what the hell happened in both competitions; I love JW and all and expected him to EASILY finish in the top 3 (or moreso at least win Campbell's) in both JPN. Int. and Campbells, but I guess he got the Michelle Kwan syndrome just before she faced Moscow Worlds. Both got preoccupied with the calculation in order to earn CoP points, and in MK' case (which I am duly afraid might get replayed out this season b/c she's gonna skipped her first 2 competitions) it ended up w/ her worst Worlds QR. Receiving feedback from 1 or 2 CoP-certified judges is SO different from being in actual competition; but in Johnny's case he let the math/the system do the skating. IMHO, had he just skated with controlled abandon and focused MORE on the triples, in the least his spins, footwork, etc. would have been level 2, with the lower chance of one of them being level 3.
Marco analyzed 2 of his 4 spins, and his FW seq. to be level 4, but I don't know??? They were obviously downgraded by the judges.
I hope Michelle gets back in the game ASAP as she may only have Cup of China and perhaps 4CC for international judges' feedback. There is the risk that many of Tarasova's initially presumed CoP elements may not be at the level as initially speculated, and this was the reason why Shizuka did not score well at 05 Worlds.
