Oda - Can he become a quadruple jumper?

We saw Oda landed quadruple toe loop, sometimes in combination so many times in the practice, we only saw it once in the competition, though.:sheesh:

Does he keep being chicken:disapp:, or, hopefully become a consistent quadruple jumper?

He has the best landings, I think he can definitely become a quadruple jumper! It probably also helps that he is so light and small - he can rotate faster than the big manly quad jumpers like Joubert and Verner. I think where he placed 7th at the Olympics he'll be hungry for better results at Worlds and next season and will probably start attempting quads in his programs.

I think that Nobu was far more consistent than Dai, but I think that it was a good choice for him not to go for it. He looked rather overwhelmed by nerves at the Olympics and putting a quad for the second time in the season at the big Games would have been a lot of burden on him that could have messed up other things in his program. Putting a quad takes out a lot of focus and physical and mental stamina. I wasn't impressed by Dai's trial because of the extremely low success rate in his practice reports. I think Nobu made a reasonable choice, considering his practice reports. Although it has been reported that he lands it many times, his success rates didn't sound like 80% or 90%.

I agree that Oda has a better quad than Dai, he is just afraid to try it and Dai is not. If Oda skated the way he does in practice he would be probably world champion/olympic medalist already. He really has to learn how to control nerves before anything else IMO. Once he does that he will become a more expressive skater who is not freaked out about the jumps. Mao is also a headcase for nerves, but she is learning how to control that (case in point the 2 triple axels). Quads are obviously rather easy for Nobu, he should start trying them in the less important competitions to get used to it.
