On Site Reports @ Worlds 2016

I saw the last group of ladies, didn't notice that Mirai was off the ice until after Gracie finished when I counted and went, hang on, I'm sure there were six ladies a minute ago.

The men were spectacular IMO. Max was pretty good, took a couple of nasty spills, the runthrough was good, 4S-2T and a fall on the 4S were the only mistakes. Got his arm caught in his shirt twice that I saw. Um, it's no exaggeration, his shirt flies up very high and his leggings ride really low.

Yeah, I've seen that shirt and those leggings, :) though I never saw him get his arm caught in it. I watched the men's press conf. after nationals just a day or two ago, and I noticed that Max had already changed into his regular, plain white crew-neck t-shirt. Cute. I almost expected to see a couple of cigarettes rolled into a sleeve, fifties style.

He is just as wonderful to watch skate as I always imagined. Other notes from that group included that I get why people adore Adam so much now,

That's very cool. :cool::agree:

Grant was very lovely and looked so happy to be there, he even had American-themed gloves :laugh:. Fernandez looked like a ninja turtle.

LOL.

Third group, Hanyu and Uno had a nasty near miss late in the session, Hanyu fell on a 3A (he did a lot of falling on 3As late in the session) and slid towards the boards, almost taking out Uno who was skating close to the boards to avoid him. Ten cut off Hanyu once during Hanyu's music.

Yikes and more Yikes. :eeking:

Brendan landed a bunch of quads and 3As, did his SP runthrough, 4T step out 3A hand down 3Lz-3T :love:. I made sure to yell a lot for Brendan so he didn't feel left out. :yes:

I was too tired to stay for the last groups, it's been a long and somewhat stressful and painful day so I retired for the evening. Can't wait for tomorrow! I am gonna watch every single skater dammit and I'm gonna love the heck out of it! :yahoo:

EDIT: I was on the same flight as the Russian ladies.

Wow! That must have been a thrill. It would have been for me. Edit: Oh ... but why was it a painful day?

ETA: thanks for this report.

I love it too! Which is why I'm SO bummed I won't be able to see that SP in person! :( But I have a test Thursday morning at 9:00 and then an experiment.

Doggone it. I feel your pain. But a test and an experiment are important.

I remember that debate very well. I really think that Gracie should be the exception to Franks rule. She needs to learn how to perform her jumps. Not just land them but perform them. She is so fast and talented. Also, her performance skills, when she does them, are great. Lastly, she is 1000% better than she was before she got to Frank. She could always jump but now she skates like a diva and I love that.

I think I agree with you. But somehow Frank does not impress me as the type to be impressed by anything like "exception to the rule." :laugh:

CKH, your dedication to skating and your education are impressive. I can tell you that, even married to me, my spousal unit (professor at Local Large Private University) would *never* have given an excused absence for a skating event:biggrin:

Although he did start every semester pointing out the test dates on the syllabus, and saying "Call your grandparents. Tell them that they are in mortal danger on these dates....":laugh:

Oh wow. Must be an entertaining guy.

Yes. Shoma walked past me at the GPF, and he's basically a garden gnome. I'm allowed to say that because I'm about the same height :laugh:

Aw. Ever since watching CBC coverage of 4CCs I want to see Satoko and Shoma become a dance team once they finish their singles careers :p they really would be the cutest thing ever!

So, I'm making cards that look like some of my favorite skaters' dresses to use as toss gifts (or not, if I see the skaters around before the event). I had previously made ones for Evgenia, Elena and Gracie, and today I printed out short letters that I meticulously translated and re-translated into Russian (I had to make sure Google didn't do anything weird, and it took about 9,000 re-wordings to make sure it didn't!) for Evgenia and Elena's. This made me want to make more, but unfortunately a craft store run at 8:30 PM was not feasible :laugh:, so I sorted through my stash to see if I had anything at all that resembled the costumes of any skaters I like. I came up with only one: Alaine Chartrand, whose SP dress was simple enough that I could make the card with stuff I already had (turquoise cardstock, adhesive crystals and illusion mesh I cut off of a dance dress I got at a garage sale with the sole intention of stripping it for parts :laugh:). So I added one more to my collection! I would've loved to make them for all three Japanese or Mirai ladies but I didn't have any supplies in the right colors...wah wah waaaaah.

(It has just dawned on me that I have white cardstock and this gold tape with pearls and rhinestones on it-http://www.michaels.com/10211133.html#q=Recollections+bling&start=25-that looks exactly like the bling on Ashley's dress...and now I'm feeling lazy. :laugh: I might have to try that later.)

Simply gorgeous. I feel Adam has stepped up so many aspects of his skating this year. Thanks for posting this.

Well. That's better than falling but, that thing's gonna get dinged. It's clearly not fully around. In any case, if he does the rest of the program cleanly, I could see him finishing in the 5. Fortunately, he has so many good qualities in his skating that if he can stay on his feet during that Lutz, I think he'll be rewarded. Can you imagine the crowd response if he lands that Lutz at Worlds.

Unless Adam falls on the Lutz, the crowd will assume it is landed and cheer wildly.

Eek. If it happens, and if there is a roar, I hope he doesn't get discombobulated.:scard8:

Urgh.. the never ending drama that follows Mirai and her struggles. Lord bless the boots... extra strong sticky tape please!!

Good news: Mirai is like a box of chocolate...You never know what are you going to get!
Bad news: Mirai is like a box of chocolate...You never know what are you going to get!

Adam = 4lutz(ish) :clap:

Really..? That's gorgeous? Good effort maybe... It looks under-rotated to me and in comparison to the only man in the world that can rightfully do a 4Lz, it's frankly just not up to par.

I love the reports! :yahoo: every discipline has such a high quality, skating at its best. Also love the GS tweets, thank you!!

mmm I think you messed 4Salchow with 3A, Hanyu fell from 4sals and popped quad toe yesterday. no fall on axel.
