Pairs - Free Program

A good finish for all of the Canadian teams. While none medalled (which was a longshot at best, IMO) for all three to land in the top 10 is an excellent result. Too bad D/D had a couple of falls in the LP. I hope they keep their programs for next year, with some minor tweaking to perhaps up difficulty (they need to work on a triple twist, for example). They've really hardly gotten to use them and they are stunning. Good for M/B hanging in there. Wow for the Ukranian team for their big jump in the standings.

Overall it sounds like there were lots of falls and mistakes in the LP, compared to the very clean short program competition. I'm not surprised Pet/ Tik withdrew. They looked totally exhausted following their short, there would have been little chance to make it through the long with a credible performance. Very sad for the Siudeks — that's not how you want to end a career. Congrats to the medal winners.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again, the Canadian Pairs rock!

I like how they always have good choreography and transitions in their programmes, and don't take the easy option. Okay the elements don't always come off, but the programmes are still enjoyable to watch.

D&D were robbed again in the LP today.

Pity the Germans couldn't skate half as well here as in Warsaw and make it a competition with the Chinese.

So sad and in tears for poor Dorota and Mariusz, but wish them a fond farewell, and good luck for the future with their Polish Skating School. :agree:

For the Pair who have had rave reviews on the internet all season - Kawaguchi-Smirnov - didn't Moskvina use that same music for Lena & Anton a few years ago? Plus, he may be called "Tarzan" at the gym cos he likes to show off his chest, and could be a male model, but a great skater he aint. Another Pair with a lot of puff but very little substance so far. We'll see as the years go by.

Congrats to both Chinese pairs, they were fab, and how sweet to see their Coach in tears, aw. :)

Yeay for Brooke and Ben!!!! What a great worlds debut for them!

I dissolved in tears during the whole Shen and Zhao LP. I couldn't help myself. I can't believe they are retiring. I can't believe it's time. Their program was so painfully beautiful. It was such a magical moment.

I only watched 5 pairs today and not live. Shame, I wish I had seen it all. I didn't see anything about Petrova and Thikonov nor the Siudeks. I won't even look for videos. I don't want to see it. I will forget they competed here and pretend their last competition ended on the podium in Warsaw.

So true... this is how all the greats should go out... on top ~ proving that adversity breeds character and talent, passion and love are the three main ingrediants in the athlete as icon. LOVE IT!!!

The Ukraine

Wow, just watched the Ukraine pair V/M(?), they are just amazing, especially the female partner.

This pair is much much better than most other hyped pairs such as S/S, D/D and K/S. I wouldn't mind giving them the bronze medal if only based on free skate alone.

The female partner is just magic, and she's the most talented pair skater in the world. She is so smooth, flexible, coupled with big tricks. They have the best 3TWIST, even better than the Chinese pairs'. The throws are monstrous. They can do three sbs triples, 3T+3T+SEQ and 3S.

Too bad they were grossly undermarked in the past.

They're wonderful, aren't they? I would love to see them on the podium next year, and I hope this placing does a lot for their confidence.

Not only is that article way too harsh, but there's also one grammatical mistake in it w/Craig Buntin being quoted using "There", instead of "They're" when talking about Mariusz and Dorota. That's just inexcusable on the part of Canadian Press, but nowhere on that part of the site I could see to at least send in a complaint about the article.

Sorry for S/S and Tv/Pv, not a good way to end their remarkable career. Hope they enjoy the show if they join any of them.

I understand why the two Chinese pairs ended 1 and 2. They totally deserve it. Yes they're not my cup of tea, and never will be, but good for them etc.

Aliona and Robin have to work even harder from now on. Glad they have the bronze though.

Kawaguchi & Smirnov simply lack experience. They are not on that level yet. But they will be some day.

Pairs on CBC.

Anabelle LANGLOIS / Cody HAY:

A very nice performance. She is strong.
They are a pair who deserves more attention. They are relatively consistent at Nationals and this worlds on big items. Anabelle is a very strong female partner who can consistently land triples. Their consistency will carry them further at international scenes in the future. Too bad about the draw, otherwise, they should finish even higher for their debut.

M/B:
Sort of a mini-meltdown, I like them, and really hope it will not be the end of their partnership. Their inconsistency is killing them. You can't be so inconsistent while competing against such a deep international field. B's jumps make me cringe. As a male partner, you have to be almost 100% percent consistent in jumps, since the female partners are generally more inconsistent on that front.

D/D:
A beautiful program, they have the talent and potential.

:( Marcoux & Buntin were crying backstage, while being interviewed by the CBC. They are really disappointed with their skate. They said they need to reflect before they evaluate their future plans. I hope they continue to compete. I love them.

S/s

S/S on CBC:

I don't see the big deal about them. Those lift positions are simply ugly. I mean, Zhang & Zhang will come up with the same ugly lifts with no problem if that's really what fans/judges think the so-called originality is.

Pang & Tong:

A near-flawless performance although the program is a bit outdated. Those marks, sigh! Puke! They were severely undermarked. Only 121 points vs. S&S' 119 points??? Give me a break. But I can't complain too much since many people thought their last year's world title was a gift.

Really wish they could carry Ukraine's V&M's long program. They are absolutely brilliant. Bronze medal to them from me!

I can't agree more with you! What the judges were looking at? With three major errors on elements and lack of fire performance of S/S, and a near perfect performance from P/T, less than 2 points difference??? Give me a break! P/T were so undermarked! or S/S terribly overmarked. whatever.

Congratulations,S/Z!!! What a great way to end their career!

I agree with both of you.
