Pairs LP

Dube/Davison, CAN

Carmen, oh yes...

3twist, caught low, ur?
2a-2a sequence, not perfect unison but acceptable
she hit board with foot before a lift, i think flow suffered slightly
throw3lz, great trajectory, almost held landing but flipped off
sbs 3 sal good
sbs mostly on, good quality
2nd lift much better flow - great
throw 3lo good
star lift, again great flow, her position not perfect
would like to see this 2nd hallf get sharper in expression

aah - they changed the ending! no splits out of spin. I loved that!
I quite like this program from them, hope they keep pushing the expression (esp. her)

121.26 -- 1855.62 -- 1st

It's not just you I've said it before there is nothing "Carmen" about it and lacks choreography. I'd rather watch them skate last year's LP.

D&D were technically great (mistakes aside) but this was about the least dramatic Carmen I've ever seen. His costume makes him look like a waiter! Why use that music then? And the first minute of it (music) is sooooo fugly.

But they were still very good.

Yep, still don't like Zhang/Zhang. Like than even less than Dubé/Davison.

But they'll probably hit their peak again at Worlds. Aliona and Robin need to land those three sbs-Triples in the free, gives them an advantage over, well, everyone but Mukhortova/Trankov.

I don't think the Zhangs will go into first with that skate. A few mistakes. He looked like he almost dropped her in one of their lilfts.

Oh, they'll probably still get a 120+ and go into first because they are the Zhangs and can do no wrong.

Edited to add that I am glad I was wrong!

Prefered D/D to Z/Z as Z/Z looked very slow at the end and had a few errors. Something lacking towards the end.

Zhangs, CHN

Yangtzee River piano concerto

sbs 2a-3t, i think fine?
throw 3sal easy, high
3twist, lovely

* missed some *

came rather undone in the 2nd half!

she popped/downgraded a couple of jumps i think
a messy almost dangerous looking exit from a lift, she seemed rattled at points after that -- but commentator commending him and their training for protecting her
sbs steps no energy whatsoever, lost on the music

111.78 -- 174.something -- 2nd
looking not pleased with each other at end

Pang/Tong CHN

Gotan Project tango, then Aranjuez

2a-2a seq - 2nd one tight from him
sbs 3t tight but i think fine
sbs spin unison off
quite a lot of choreo in this, for a pairs program
3twist, lateral, from spread eagle
throw 3sal, high easy
throw 3lo
lift going up after a sort of catrwheel from her

well received by crowd
this program leaves me very cold, though, personally -- i think i prefer their softer side. Much much more content than D/D though, seemingly, transitions, etc. One thing that D/D do notably better is flow/ice coverage in lifts. Also sbs spins. But D/D need to up their expression of what choreo they do have, couple that with a sharp command of the ice, if they want to compete with this. all IMO

Congrats to P/T great LP and to all of the podium finishers. Congrats to Keanue/ Rockne and Caydee/Jeremy they did super placing 5th and 6th in their first international competition

Oh my god, they purposely turned off all the lights so people couldn't see to leave before the medals. They are fumbling around on the ice in the dark trying to set up the podiums ...

Man, why do they announce the winners first? They should announce (4th for nationals), 3rd, 2nd, then 1st last. It builds the excitement, instead of killing it. So stupid.

Enjoyed Pang/ Tong. Interesting they have a kind of spanish tango program as well as Dube/Davison. Congrats to both 1st and 2nd place as they were both good.

Corrective Criticims

Pang/Tong. A little rapport between you wouldn't hurt. It was just stone face throughout. There is a melancholy Spanish rhythm there, try to capture it.

McLaughlin/Brubaker. I guess it is too late to dump that Malaguena. It does take a bit of Spanish dancing knowledge.

Denny/Barrett - You need a choreographer. Your programs seem to move you in a circle and only a diagnol for a lift.

Competitively speaking, the placements were correct, although I would have given Duhamel/Bunton the bronze.

I so agree. They do that at the Olympics and I have never understood why they don't do the same everywhere else.

ETA: Man, they really speeded up that National anthem didn't they?
