Pairs Short Program - Battle Among The Chinese

Well one thing I think we all agree on is it looks like the Germans and the Zhangs in a 2-horse race for gold this year and Pang/Tong, Dube/Davison, and the 2 Russian pairs for the bronze.

Well, it does look like that, BUT you never know in pairs. Zhangs are not that reliable and they scores seem to differ from comp to comp drastically. Same for S/S, who yet to prove consistency.

K/S were not held up, they have the most difficult programs out of all pairs, this season. The problem is that the programs are too difficult for their skating skills and abilities. The -GOEs on all elelements were not a nice gesture for Moskvina, as well poor and deserving PCS.
Most difficult programs have to be executed and not messed up. D&D and S&S were stupendous in SC. with all the most difficult moves required and innovated. Langois and Hay, imo, skated better than K&S regardless of the intent of K&S.

As per D/D, we were talking about the teams who are fighting for the third sport this year. Apparently they are one of those.
Well, with a win in SA and and a Silver in SC, they will definitely be in the Finals. We'll see how they match up with the more seasoned teams in that event.

I have to disagree with your usage of superlatives especially towards D/D, nice and capable pair with average technical content, I have to aknowledge that they did what they wanted to do nicely and clean. But this is very ealry in the season, we all know that's not the time to pick and I am thinking that this is their pick.
I would agree about Langlois and Hoy though, this pair is much better than D/D, though comparing them to K/S is laughable.

I am not big fan of K/S, I think it is interesting experement that is going to end this season. I am not seeing them going too far, Smirnov and whoever he is going to be paired up next (hopefully , it is Bazarova) now that pair is going to ROCK.

As per GPF, this is one of those events, I do not really care for. For once, getting in, does not really mean that they are going to attend it. Skaters often skip this event. And usually, it is not very interesting event competition wise at the end.

I can only opine on what I see and not what skaters can normally do. That's what competition is all about. Perhaps K&S will skate to the potential of that potential above average Technical, but I did not see it in SC. (Kawaguchi messed up royally in that competition and Moskvina knows it.)

And you can disagree with me. that's what the forum is all about.

Well, if you are talking about our impressions and presonal opinions, I would suggest you to not express Moskvina's opinion. How do you know what she knows, just by your observation at SC KaC?

Saying that K/S, who have been together for one and a half season and finished third at thier first Grand Prix event, as SCREWING UP ROYALLY is a bit stretching it or imposing your personal detaste for a skater or a coach. Not that anything wrong with it, as you said we can all disagree.

Just watched V/M's SP. Too bad they did not skate well, but this SP is well choreographed and has lots of interesting transitions. I think S/S and V/M have the best SP this season.

What's your problem? If you don't like Zhang/Zhang you don't have to watch. They deserved every bit of that hight score. They won the SP, fair and square!

Talking about "disgusting, repulsive....", the first name jumped into my mind is none other than Irina Slutskaya, who virtually had no presentation at all in her career while still received ridiculously high marks for her programs!

The Zhangs score is almost enough to make me not want to watch pairs skating ever again. Truly disgusting, repulsive, a slap in the face to all credability of the discipline.

Even though I found that zhang/zhang's presentation needs to be improved, but their technical skill is the highest among all teams. Their style is different from others. They are sharp, fast and energetic.
:rock::rock:
They should deserve the points for good performance.

Well, pcs is not only connecting to the music.Z/Z skating skills were great that night and their elements were clean and a very interesting choeography .

Zhang/Zhang are probably my least favorite pair but I liked that program!

Anyone have a link to Volosozhar's program? So disappointed to see her in fifth, she is absolutely exquisite.

Zhang's skating skills great!!?!? They have no run to the edge at all and they almost look to be jerking around the ice.

:rofl: Irina had more presentation in her little finger then the Zhangs have in their whole body. She wasnt the most polished skater but atleast she had great basic skating skills, ability to phrase and accent music, very good spins (on a good day) and on ice presence. The Zhangs are just hockey puckers from trick to trick. For someone who tells me not to watch the Zhangs and their connect-the-dots program it sounds like you watched the supposably awful Irina an awful lot to. :sheesh:

Improvement

The clearest improvement I see in Z/Z is in their sbs spins - they aren't perfect but getting a bit close in unison.

Totally agree! I don't understand Irina's presentation at all, neither!
All her "dynamic" style seems awkward and stupid to me.

That was a beautiful program! Not just for Zhang/Zhang. Hard to beat by anyone. Her line and presentation improved so much and her moves has more tension and expression now. And their SBS spin was perfectly in syncuntil the last moment, should be able to get that fixed next time, I hope. I didn't make any comment when I saw their marks but after I saw the vedio, they deserved it, every single bit. I'm starting to have faith in them now. Who knows, maybe one day I can even add them to my favourate list:)
