Pairs SP - Please use this thread for comments and PBP

Did she fall after the side by side or during the landing? My stream was frozen the entire time, so I couldn't tell. The scores would make more sense if the judges didn't tie the fall to the jump; then they literally only lost one point.

After the landing. The were doing a little twizzle right after the jump and it looked like she just sat down. I could not tell why she fell.

She didn't fell on the jump, she fell definitely after it. There is not much to deduct except one point for the fall, she didn't fall on an element. A bit like Pluschenko at Worlds 2004, when he just fell on a cross over or something like that.

And - Savchenko/Szolkowy cracked the 70 for the first time this season. I love that program.

The competition was great among the pairs, I think they are my second favourite discipline.

Ok, that makes more sense. I thought it was on the landing. So just like at CoR, Ms. Zhang agains falls on... nothing? Strange indeed! I would still expect their PCS to take a bit of a hit for that.

Agreed. I love S/S program, actually it is my favorite. It was a pleasure to watch excellent skating. Well done by all of the teams.

She fell on the SBS jump, and I think had an error on the throw also; plus, their SBS spins were just a holy mess.
I thought that the throw was alright - their twist was a bit awkward, as it is most of the times. And she just had a really bad day. I think her 3T-fall might have also been underrotated. The mistake on the SBS spins was also hers, I think she just got off balance and he already had two rotations when she just started...

Stuff happens. I loved it how Smirnov was all smiling in the K&C, giving her a peck etc. He always seems to prefer to stay positive. Which is a good thing!

I forgot to say earlier that I am happy for V/M - he was so unhappy in Russia, I think he really really wants to be a partner who deserves such a talented lady. Aren't they a couple off ice too? It must have been horrible when everyone said that he is holding her down etc. So, I am very happy for them.

Thanks for the info. I just got around to watching everything. After watching all the short programs, pairs was definitely the most entertaining to me. Aside from K/S who were off, everyone really did some of their best skating of the season. At first I used to not like S/S's short because I thought it was too goofy and they skated too far apart, but now I kind of like it and think it's fun and cute. V/M two footed their throw, but everything else they did was just great. Their twist is amazingly high, and I could watch it all day. I don't care for the Zhangs and Pang/Tong, but they both did excellent. Overall a great day for pairs, and my favorite pair wasn't even in this.

Shocked about K&S...

So happy for S&S! They needed a clean program. I still hate that Lost in Space theme and costumes, but they are great skaters. Can't wait for the free!

A chain is no stronger than its weakest link.
Has it anything to do with the fact that it is 1 a.m. here - or was that comment really hard to understand? Do you think that one of the two is rather weak, and who is it then? I actually think that Sminov is one of the better male pair skaters, I love his extension and elegant body line - but then again, I am really blinded by his good looks. Or were you talking about Kawaguchi?

Oh no! Poor Trankov = [ I hope he feels better real soon, even if it's not in time to compete.

And Medusa, I didn't get that comment either. I agree that Smirnov is a great pairs skater though, he's got a certain elegance to him.

I grudgingly admit that I liked the S/S Lost in Space SP better than when I saw it earlier in the season. However, it is still a gimmicky, musically insignificant trifle --- one mistake and they're out (in terms of SP).

P/T are a major disappointment this season after all the strides they made last year. However, I never thought I be so invested in Z/Z. They are, by far, my favorite team this season.

While I hope all the teams go clean tomorrow, I am especially hopeful for Savchenko/Szolkowy and Volosozhar/Morosov, who IMO have the best LPs of all the pairs this season. I would be thrilled.
