All figure skating and ice dancing competitors should be compelled to wear standardized uniforms, like gymnastics. That would take the inherent unfairness of costumes, which have nothing to do with athletic prowess, out of the equation.

I agree. Some variations and creative additions could be OK, as long as the basic requirements are met. Revealing and vulnerable Latin costumes hanging by a thread should not be allowed.
The same should apply to excessive wedgies. Yevgenia Tarasova's costume should be penalized too for that reason.
