They seem to be saying that there are hostages still being held in the theatre that was attacked.

My heart hurts even thinking about this. Unfortunately, I believe this will have an impact on TEB, especially as the situation escalates. I think it would be in poor taste to hold a major sporting event in the wake of such a horrible terrorist attack. My heart especially goes out to the French skaters. If I were in their shoes right now and I had loved ones potentially impacted by this terrible situation, I couldn't even begin to concentrate on competing.

Schools and other functions have been canceled across France, it's possible TEB will be suspended/canceled as well.

I agree. There's no way I could concentrate on skating if I had Family there. I don't have Family there and I know this sounds drastic but, maybe they should cancel the free program. I can only imagine how many people in the audience might be directly effected by this tragedy.

Would it be possible to award final placements based on the results of the completed short program, and cancel the free skate?
Was in Paris weeks ago, and I was nervous at one point. There are a few shady characters boarding the train and they had duffle bags and looking quite "terroristy" It's a shame because I've always loved Paris, but every time I go back, I never feel 100% safe anymore.

I does seem in poor taste to hold the event, but at the same time, I don't think it is right for the athletes to not still get the chance to compete because of this. Some may not be able to make a rescheduled event. It is a hard balance. I generally feel that we should strive to not create more people harmed, and rescheduling could harm some skaters.
I think it may take place but not as an event, just a closed door judging session. I think it was the Emmys that did something like that a few year back, gave out the awards, but skipped the event stuff. This keeps it respectful to the victims, but also gives the skaters a chance to keep their lives as normal as possible.
While Bordeaux is a ways away, it is still not that far. I am sure many people working at the venue have loved ones who live in Paris for instance.
I am wondering if this might shed some light on Misha's passport issues. Maybe France had some idea something was going on and was on a higher security alert than normally. This does not seem that implausible or unreasonable actually.

I don't know but that's exactly what I would do. Even if the skaters are OK I can imagine the audience members will not be up for watching figure skating after such a horrible event. What is wrong with people these days. The tsunami was a natural disaster. This is a human tragedy of the worst kind.

I feel nerveous for what is being reporting, people rushing in to the Metro and there is no police vigilance, pray there is no more attacks.
