No idea as to the veracity, but it is a hint.

Given the fact that it seems a sporting event was the target, this might have more of an impact than if it had been a school or a shopping center.

Yes, Safety is the main concern, but there's non need to succumb to terrorism otherwise.

I also heard that it's curfew across the whole country. TEB will be affected, if curfew is not lifted by the time competition starts tomorrow.
It's going to be very hard to skate under these conditions anyway.

Well the World Championships were canceled all together the year the plane carrying Team USA crashed. That is the first that pops to mind for something like this. But that was a very different time and this is a very different competition.

I think delaying to Sunday might be a reasonable compromise. Most people would still be around and able to participate, it gives people time to rest and keep things as sane as possible.

but as alain06fr said - life must go on. I don't think canceling it is the right thing to do.

They were postponed before being moved to Russia after the Tsunami were they not? The difference here is that season is not over like it would be if this were the World Championships. There are other events that these skaters can be moved to should they need points to qualify for the GPF. It may take some re-scheduling but, I think it can be done.

Safety is most important, closing borders in France is an extreme measure... so nothing would surprise me at this point.

As far as skaters go, I hope the travel disruptions don't last longer than is needed -- some skaters need to be in Moscow for Rostelecom just a few days after TEB, including Peng/Zhang & Roberta Rodeghiero.

When things like this happen, the entire country is put on alert. How do you know attacks aren't planned in other parts of France? Hollande has closed the borders bc they anticipate further attacks.

You guys are talking about two completely different occasions.

There will be a joint desicion of isu france fed and goverment authorities. There are no deatailed rules for things like this but i rules the referee can decide if there is a reason for interuption or if ir is possible to hold event. Of course in this case not referee alone will decide but isu officials all together

You can't stop your life on the assumption that attacks can happen anywhere and at anytime,
Unless there is a specific solid enough intel.

London or Brussels are by far much closer to Paris than Bordeaux. Of course, it really makes sense to reinforce the security at TEB. BTW, policmen were checking people at the entrance of the rink today. It's still possible to install some equipment to scan the bags and so on. And to be honest, there are much more people walking in the shoping streets of Bordeaux than in the Meriadeck arena.

I think it was WTT that was moved and i thought that was due to venue/location damage.

And you are right that this is different. The equivalent would almost be to cancel the entire grand prix, which i would hope is not on the table. The idea of moving them might have worked for Skate America, but there are only two events left and even the one next week might have travel issues. And even if you do that. how do you compare events that have 11 people vs one that have 18? They would have to kinda rewrite the rules for qualifying for the grand prix. Plus some of those skaters are already in one of the next two events.

Maybe reschedule for the weekend of December 5th somewhere? And do the SP scores still count? and if not can we just let Misha back in?

I does seem in poor taste to hold the event, but at the same time, I don't think it is right for the athletes to not still get the chance to compete because of this. Some may not be able to make a rescheduled event. It is a hard balance. I generally feel that we should strive to not create more people harmed, and rescheduling could harm some skaters.

I think it may take place but not as an event, just a closed door judging session. I think it was the Emmys that did something like that a few year back, gave out the awards, but skipped the event stuff. This keeps it respectful to the victims, but also gives the skaters a chance to keep their lives as normal as possible.

While Bordeaux is a ways away, it is still not that far. I am sure many people working at the venue have loved ones who live in Paris for instance.

I am wondering if this might shed some light on Misha's passport issues. Maybe France had some idea something was going on and was on a higher security alert than normally. This does not seem that implausible or unreasonable actually.

I agree that this might be the best way to handle it, as it strikes the best balance between continuing the competition and spectator safety. If it was in Paris, they should cancel it.

At this point we don't know if there are more attacks, so I would understand if it were cancelled. I don't know how the points would be affected for rankings, but they could either rank off the SP, wait a few days to continue (since borders are closed, the athletes won't be leaving for a while), or have all the skaters come back before the GPF (that would be a logistical nightmare.)

I don't know if it would be possible, especially for the French skaters, to train in the morning and then compete, with all of this going on. I am torn between it being in poor taste to continue, or it being a show of strength in the face of terrorism.

I realize that. I was trying to say that it is possible to either cancel the event and use the SP for scores. Or, in cases of Patrick, Max, Liza, and others who really need the free skate to keep them in contention. They should be offered a new event because if we just use SP placements, it could be detrimental to their seasons. I hope that made sense.
